Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

My H.H.V Girl with dragon tattoo arrived the other day. I just opened it to find those horrible pot marks all over the front. Its straight back in the post to H.M.V

I've had a couple like that. Seems a pretty common fault. All those marks in the pic are small but deep dents.

one from play today  i'm getting nervous with all my pre-orders :ohno:

Securely pack the item to avoid damage during delivery. If possible, please use the original packaging. ha ha

Looks like I'm going to have to fight it out, got this reply off him:

am on a business trip for the next two weeks, from what I see it was a shipping damage I put high emphasis on the packaging and also stated fragile. This is why I mentioned to you that I do not ship internationally. If you want to open a case against me fine. I did my part in all of this. I package the same way for everyone and I had no problems I'm sorry to have this issue be Like this but this is a first for me to be in this situation and I did my part and when I get back I will provide eBay my case

I just replied again asking for a refund & saying should he want to fight it out I could get lots of accounts saying it's not sufficient packaging, also I mentioned the fact EVERY corner has paint chips/scuffs, so he even posted it not as described.

I can't believe he thought that was acceptable packing, does anyone who has had to claim before think I've got a strong case?

^^^^^^ hope you get this sorted mate , i'm angry over a play.com one for just 17 quid so i cant imagine on how you feel with such a rare steel and the amount of money paid for this item ...

Good luck in getting this sorted asap

Sounds very similar to the guy that sold me a badly scuffed Watchmen steel... he sent it in a jiffy and basically said exactly the same as what you quoted above. His eBay name doesn't have the word 'dog' in it by any chance does it?

Nope it hasn't got dog :( I just think some people are either really naive or stupid. How did your case go in the end?

There is no case to fight, it's a done deal. PayPal protects the buyer every time, and if you are unhappy with your purchase you will get your money back.

And if he stalls them by not giving replies, they will simply give you your money back anyway. He will learn very quickly that PayPal don't mess around when it comes to recovering funds for unhappy buyers.

Hopefully this situation will be dealt with soon and you can move on to happier purchases. :)

Yeah, it seems there are too many sellers out there who just simply don't use their brains.

My case was dragged out for about a month thanks to the ignorance of the seller... at first he denied the steelbook had any signs of wear before sending it out, but he did eventually admit to it after I was able to enhance the quality of the picture he used for the auction and I pointed out the areas of damage. He also believed it was fine to send it in a jiffy envelope.

I obviously opened a case and ended up taking detailed photos of the steelbook, to which eBay agreed wasn't acceptable and told me to return the item for a full refund.

Good luck with your case mate... not that you'll need it though, as the seller is clearly in the wrong here!

That's great to hear, thanks. It's a shame that even after paying for insurance, I still have to fight for my money.

Ouch, I'd hate to have to wait a month. I can escalate the case to eBay on the 5th of May. I've kept the packaging & have taken pictures of it all & all damage on the steelbook. So hopefully it won't be drawn out too much.

Keep in mind, you'll lose the money in sending it back to him. Paypal or eBay won't refund you that.

Also, you MUST send it with tracking information. (meaning a courier with accurate online tracking) eBay is going to confirm that the seller received the item back before they refund you.

The seller can win the case if he said he never received the item and you can't provide proof of shipping it back to him.

I thought something like that would be necessary, look's like it'll cost about £10 to get it to him with delivery confirmation, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that much. How would you suggest I ship it back to him? Would it be best to pack it how I would pack a steel normally?

The dent you can see on the first picture steelbook 1 was lying under the card ... and the 2nd steelbook was next to the spine , the cardboard wrap was not damaged in anyway so maybe could of been shipped like that , 1 dent could be seen by the naked eye and was hidden underneath the backing card .

Are you able to input in the tracking number online and it says delivered and it shows the destination city?

Since this is a big item, I would send it back REGISTERED mail with signature requirement.

I would package it well in a cardboard box and bubble wrapping back to him. Or else he'll make a case with you that you sent it back in worse shape than before.

Since you bought insurance already, the seller needs to deal with his postage company to make the claim so he can get his money back.

such headache...the seller could have avoided this mess if he had shipped it properly.

I bought a$500 statue and it arrived damage. I requested my money back by opening a case. I sent it back via UPS with signature. For whatever reason UPS tracking was showing delivered to a different city than my initial destination. eBay closed my case and said the seller WON. I'm like WTF. So, I'm like out of $500 and no statue. So, I had to escalate the case and they said the tracking was delivered to someone else. And I said I have receipt and all. It even showed that he signed for it. I sent them a copy of my UPS receipt with the same tracking number on it. They concluded UPS probably had a glitch w/ the city located next to it other in their system. So, they rewarded my $500 back, but I lost money from sending it back to the seller. A week later, the seller tried to escalate the case because he said he didn't accept refund, etc. He lost the case. Too much headache!

Yeah I'll make sure it's posted by recorded delivery, I'll get insurance on it as well in case it gets lost. Royal Mails website seems to be saying its only £3-£4 more.

I'll post it how it should have been posted originally then, hopefully someone else will have a better experience further down the line.

Thanks for the advice :scat:

Wow, you have gone through quite an ordeal. At least you got the money back minus return shipping.

Not got the money back yet bud :( Hopefully the seller sees sense & refunds me & we can avoid escalating it.

I don't know if you're speaking from experience, but when I recently had trouble with a seller and had to return the item, eBay kindly sent me a shipping label via email, so postage was all covered by them and tracked, which I was really impressed with. :D

does it mean theres no point in returning it?
