Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

Hey xMicheil, great result on your ebay case. Congrats for getting it sorted mate!! Bet that is a huge weight off your mind!

Terry - That's pretty bad damage and whilst I agree with you that the Play packaging was shite on the MI4 shipment it has to be said that the postman might have been a little carefree with that one too! Did you get a replacemant ok though?

Thanks, yeah it was a relief when that e-mail came through. Still need the money yet though.

Well let's hope that getting the money is the easy bit then. Keep us posted bud.

I'm contemplating getting one or two of the holy grails at some point and I want to be as wise as I can to any of the potential issues that might come with it. It is a lot of money for a film at the end of the day, no matter how you justify it to yourself (and the wife!)

Your safest option is to buy from a reputable trader here. Only problem being as most of us are collectors so there's never really any up for sale unless someone decides to sell of their collection. There are decent sellers on eBay though just gotta be cautious (Something I've learnt the hard way, I was probably a bit naive in that sense)

Just tell her to think of it as art more than a film :p That might work :dunno:

Has anyone had any luck returning damaged steels to Best Buy? I got an Underworld Steelbook with two dents on the back! Grr!

i asked one employee said as long as it wasn't opened, returns shouldn't be a problem. since then, i've returned / exchanged damaged steels twice with no problem. well....the woman did give me a funny look when i pointed out the tiiiiiiiiny dent...but was very cool about doing the exchange for me.

I need the plastic insides of the metal case

I bought an exclusive and did not notice the side was damaged in between the spine and the connection to the back (it was split), so I need to get a hold of the inner plastic guts to fix them (tried to take back but they were all gone). I contacted the Steelbook makers directly, (Rob Auld), and they said they could not help. I was a bit upset at this being they make the dang things, ah well, he referred me to here. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd check to see if there are any cheap damaged steels selling on eBay. Maybe contact the user and ask them if the plastic inside is still in good condition. And if so use that and throw away the damaged metal.

I think cartman has a very good suggestion kw - I would try that first.

I've moved your post to here.

And welcome to the forums!!

Black permanent marker will clear that up.

DHL can bite my ass. This was lodged in my mail box despite the clear instructions I left that can been seen on the invoice.

DHL even highlighted this. I also have an outside mailbox, which was sadly specifically bought for steelbooks. It has a large flap lid and can happily hold 2-3 steels in jiffy bags.

I had my Public Enemies up for sale, decide to clean some sticker residue off, not noticing the small tear in the shrink wrap, Goo Gone all over the steel.

In a panic, I had to open it and clean it quick. Thankfully it's perfect, but open & I have a disappointed buyer.

Jesus that's a nightmare mate. So do you think the damage was done by him rough-housing it through the letter box? Don't DHL require a signature?

Once a DHL guy came to my apartment and simply returned without delivering the package by putting some random signature as he was not in good terms with the conceirge desk (reception) staffs. CCTV video footage proved this and DHL customer service replied that they took necessary action. However, they didn't even bother to apologize. Contacted the merchant (FNAC) for a refund and realized that FNAC customer service is abysmal. Double blow, 3 weeks of pain and lost 5 GBP due to currency conversion.

What an incompetent moron your DHL delivery driver must have been. Can't believe he would have read your message and then completely ignored it! If I were you I'd call them and give them a right old bollicking! I would be absolutely livid.

It was 100% DHL.

It was lodged tight in the mail box. Im guessing it didn't drop, so he kept pushing. In contrast, I'm on really good terms with my Royal Mail man and can't fault their service 99% of the time. The only time I have issues with RM is when my normal mail man is on holiday.

Like I said, call them and complain. Try and speak to someone senior and seek compensation. Luckily I always have someone at home, so there's no chance of some idiot doing that!

received a package from amazon.es yesterday. It contained 2 steelbooks, both arrived unsealed and loose with no protection in a very large box. Many dings, many paint chips, plus a couple of loose discs. Unbelievably bad.

Amazon.ca sent 4 steels in a box without protection, 2 side by side and 2 deep. One of the front ones was crushed terribly, and it squashed the one behind it too. The replacements showed up, and one of them has a medium dent on the face. When will they learn?

Amazon.fr sent 2 non-steels to fulfill my Kill Bill order. Jerks!
