seen elsewhere via web but thanks to Our members for posting.

"Cross Sale on CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-rays, box sets and games across 230 stores and online comes just weeks after the traditional Boxing Day sale.

Last month the company admitted it is likely to breach its banking covenant - throwing the entertainment retailer's financial future into doubt.

A failure to fulfil lending requirements often signals a company is close to administration, retail analyst Robert Clark told Sky News.

"A lot becomes clear after Christmas - the sale suggests that they didn't have a good one and are trying to reel in as much cash to tie things over," he said.

"I’m not sure how much time they’ve got. I don’t think they’ll be able to sway their bankers. Financial institutions are less likely to show patience in this climate."

But HMV’s chief executive Trevor Moore said in December that closing more stores or placing the business into administration was not "part of our plan" and that the firm was in "constructive discussions" with banks about its performance.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo told Sky News the Blue Cross Sale was not unusual for this time of year.

"Normally we'd look to run a multi-buy campaign of some kind at this time of year, but we thought we'd freshen our promotional mix up a bit and try something a bit different that will hopefully stand out from all the other sale offers on the high street right now," he said.

The retailer has taken a huge hit in the face of competition from online retailers like Amazon and Play.

But analysts argue that HMV has failed to reinvent itself in the last 15 years and invest in its stores to keep up with the modern technology revolution.

In December, despite numerous promotions,it announced total sales had fallen 13.5%, while like-for-like sales were down 10.2% in the six months to October 27.

HMV reported a loss before tax of £37.3m - an improvement on the £48.1m loss over the same period the year before. But net debt at the 91 year-old company increased from £163.7m to £176.1m.-bank-deadline."

I can imagine them at some point in their office discussing these pre-order steelbooks. lol

BTW. The administrators (Deloitte) are the same who dealt with Comet recently.
With them, they stopped the use of vouchers for two days then re-instated.
Comet continued to trade for 1 1/2 months after that before the stores closed.

I am confident that the pre-order steelbooks will be sold through HMV.
Im also hoping they will get shipped to stores also at bargain prices.
I will be waiting at the doors where I am on release dates.

You can still cancel your pre-orders. I did this morning - call up the HMV customer service line: 0845 603 8576

Quote your order number - This should be in your order confirmation email. They'll then be able to cancell ALL pre-orders. I just cancelled everything! :D

Thanks for this info.

Im going to call and cancel my one remaining pre-order with them. Just easier that way.

I'm really in two minds, what to do? Shall i ring up and cancel my pre-orders or just leave them as they are and hope that (a). i get my steelbooks or (b). don't get charged if i don't receive them.

If you are really worried you can call them up and have all your information and account deleted, they have to do this under the data protection act.

The representative I spoke to said Pre orders would be honored and gave me that contact number.

Hey guys-if anyone needs to refer to phone numbers, e-mail address, or their announcement, it was added to the OP yesterday. Good luck with all of our orders!

I think at the moment it's sounding like pre-orders will be honoured.

2 things to factor in though:

1) If any copies arrive damaged or faulty you may not get a replacement or refund unless you claim through your credit card company.

2) While they're in such turmoil there's no guarantee HMV will use their regular steelbook packaging. Items may get sent out in whatever stocks of packing supplies they have to hand, whether that be jiffy bags or whatever.

Until somebody gets an order shipped from them it's all guesswork.

I spoke to a member of their CS team this morning, as I wanted to cancel my pre-orders just to be on the safe side. Had a good chat with them and they said that they couldn't charge a pre-order unless it had been shipped, so there was no danger of any being charged unless they had stock, at which point stock would be sent to you anyway.

I told them I was cancelling just in case, but if their site appeared again with their exclusive steels that I would place my orders with them rather than Amazon.

Obviously they are uncertain as to what exactly is going to happen but needless to say I felt quite sorry for them having to go through all this.

So it is up to you whether you want to cancel or not based on that info. They are answering the phones if you want to cancel so you definitely have that option. Just remember they are going through all this too, and worse. I didn't distrust anything they said but the sheer volume I had on pre-order (steels and other) meant that I wanted to be safe rather than take a chance.

Just read this

Deloitte has confirmed that HMV Guernsey, HMV Hong Kong, HMV Ireland, HMV Singapore and 7Digital Group remain outside of the insolvency process.

What that means for the website I don't know?

What that means for the website I don't know?

It has no implications for HMV.com, which is part of UK operations and therefore subject to the insolvency process.

Does that mean these will cease operating altogether???

Not necessarily. They may well continue under a different name, or even under the same name but with a different owner.

Surely the website has to be back online soon, even if the administrators aim is to just shift some stock they are hardly going to do much of that with their website offline. I'll give it till Monday before the site is back up.

Well on google it says this

That's why I thought that Guernsey was HMV.com, they were always saying to me they were a different business to the stores. It used to really annoy me that I could not go in to the store and exchanged a damaged steelbook that was posted to me.
