Can we get a sticky for this? :D

What do ya'll prefer to drink? Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor, Wine Coolers? All of them?

I only drink Beer and Hard Liquor. Mint Mojito is about the only thing close to a wine cooler I'll drink though LOL

I'm making an oktoberfest this weekend! I've never made a lager before, I'm going to attempt to use a swamp cooler since I don't have room for a carboy in my fridge. Worst case scenario, I'll just get some extra esters in there and it will be a moktoberfest.

I'm making a starter for the first time here as well.... thinking about making the starter thurs afternoon and brewing on sat.

dude you have a kegerator. Sacrifice some ale for the greater lager!

I put a keg in there two weeks ago and another in there on saturday. I'd have to take them both out to fit in the stupid carboy, and then I'd be out of beer

I think I can make the swamp cooler work, we'll see when I tap the keg in October

Edit: I forgot to add that I think I can have one of those kegs gone by the time this is done with the fermentation. That way I can keg the oktoberfest and let it lager until October. That way it only takes up the space of one keg in my kegerator.

Oh fine then, risk a hot fermentation with your lager. Make it malty enough and nobody will know. :hilarious:

Hey Splax, sorry I never got around to go to the store for you. Life just took a downhill for a few days last month when I was suppose to go. If you still want the beers I can take a trip down to L.A. on Saturday. Just let me know buddy, you know how to reach me.

P.S. I updated my phone and lost the name of the beers since the chats got cleared! :D

Haha its all good Horhay. I actually was fortunate enough to trade with someone from Cali and got some Pliny the Elder and Supplication. Both are from Russian River Brewing Company.

If you ever walk in to the store and see something from them let me know. After I learned how delicious PTE was this weekend i definitely need to get somemore.

Just to lay some hands on some New Belgium or some New Glarus I would be happy lol

My vacation a couple weeks ago was to the Outer Banks in NC. I normally cant find anything from New Belgium to save my life, but the outer banks was choc full of the stuff. The distributor must have carried it down there becuase it was on tap left and right. They had 5 different kinds down there, I'm almost sick of the stuff now, lol

Brewed an oatmeal wheat stout monday

I did a partial grain.. used a pound of oatmeal, pound of wheat malt, and 2 lbs marris otter.. along with the standard 1/4lb roasted barley, chocolate malt, and crystal 60.. east kent for the hops

The pre-ferm sample tasted fantastic.. it's got so much body in it from the wheat malt that I have a hard time seeing this as a "thin" stout.

It will be a quick fermentation.. it was only 1.040 and I used a very active 1084 irish ale starter.. in fact this morning the krausen had already backed off but it was still bubbling away very well. Hoping for a clean final gravity to make it around 3.5-4%abv... easy drinking, filling stout... it's for my buddy's birthday, hope he likes stouts!

Everyone should like stouts, but I'm just biased I guess.

It's about time to restock the fridge. From light to dark, I've got 1 Schlafly Pale Ale, 2 Guinness, and 2 Founders KBS in the fridge. I finished off my Sam Adams Summer Ale a couple days ago. Don't know if I can go after the Bud Light Diva has in the fridge.

Psh.. bud light.. I slam that when I need a cold drink of funny water.

My next beer will be an Orange Pale Ale.. so far I got my extract recipe as such

6lbs extra light DME
1lb crystal 40L for steeping
.5 oz cascade 60 min
1 oz cascade 30 min
1 oz cascade 15 min
1 oz sweet orange peel 15 min
1 oz cascade at flameout

Looks tasty.. looks like it won't be over the top like my doublewide orange APA

You never fail to make me laugh :hilarious:

Looks tasty alpha. I'd probably use a few more IBU's for bittering hops, but I'm a hophead so that may be just fine :D

I made an Oktoberfest last weekend. My first lager. It is going very well actually, and using the swamp cooler for temp control is easier than I expected. I opened the closet yesterday and got a big, sulphury smack in the face. I guess I'm on the right track! I had always heard that lagers made more sulphur compounds as they fermented, but this was intense! I almost started searching for a stow-away who had been eating bean burritos all night....
