Then I used some accelerator and clear coat which I use when I spray cars also added is a slight but if thinners I think it's 2 to 1

The steels are wiped over with cleaners I get rid of grime and oil that fingers can lea e and any oils

Then I spray it in a booth which is heated and has ventilation AND IS HEATED KNOWN AS AN OVEN
Basically it what I use to spray car bits

Then spray and leave them to harden at least a day and this will be hard enough to polish to

It took me 3 steels to get used to it and I'm really happy with my Clash of the Titans, it deffo needed gloss!
I was thinking about doing my Oblivion but haven't got round to it.
That's why I started with either a cheap steel or one I didn't mind messing up, just to get used to it, but you'll be really proud when you pull one off perfectly!
Good luck mate and don't forget to share!!

Re: Little Mermaid: amazing the difference a gloss finish makes. I'm looking forward to more people experimenting to come up with a tried and true method.

So my first attempt at glossing using the "at home" method was an utter failure HAHAHA! The product works GREAT, but the first two application methods I tried did not work so well (to say the least). Basically, I was too impatient to wait to get the correct tools and just wanted to see how the product I ordered would turn out. Again, the product is GREAT and will DEFINITELY work, just need to try a few different application methods. Will report back soon after attempt #2...

After reading and seeing some badass Results, I decided to try it out on .........X - Men :D it's the go to Practice steel. I had some left over Spray can that I used on my car and decided to try out. First I cleaned the surface with alcohol and then wiped it down with a Lint free cloth and sprayed it once. Then I got the hair dryer and Dried it completely. I repeated this process 2 more time and on the last coat I put it Thicker. Not 100% satisfied but Not bad for the first try:D

Any tips about spraying inside? I am going to get a nice big box from work to spray it in. And also spraying it before I leave for work over a few days. Not sure how much the smell could bother me. Have access to a garage but we keep dipping to the (-'s) outside.

Same process as the outside of the steel but the inside of the spine would be a ***** to take off and gloss and put it back on. I'm happy with just doing the outside Glossed.

Ok guys, here's the pictures and explanation of yesterday's catastrophe (aka my first attempt at glossing a steelbook using the "at home" application method)...

va9azehu.jpg

The materials and the."before" pic of the cover. First mistake was using that tiny ass brush HAHAHA!!!

nynegu3e.jpg

This is the "before" pic of the back cover. Very dull, very matte steelbook...

Here's a pic of the cover after the first (and last LOL) coat. It actually wouldn't have turned out too bad if I had just done it and let it dry. But you can see the streaks in the upper right corner of the steel by the handle of the sword. I felt like it was going to dry streaky, so I tried to do some last minute doctoring. However, the lacquer had already started to get gummy and I just ended up messing it up terribly hahaha. The scratches you see to the left side of the sword were me scratching it with my fingernail after everything completely dried to see how easily it would come off. I'm hoping I can take it all off without ruining the paint on the steel itself and use it to try again, so that I don't have to worry about possibly ruining another steelbook :)

So after trying the cover, I approached the back cover a little differently and it came out even worse LMFAO. I tried using a thicker coat with the same, pathetically small brush. Terrible combination and even more terrible idea. You can obviously see how streaky it came out.

Lessons Learned: 1.) The product will DEFINITELY do the trick. Thank God I didn't waste money on top of time and a steelbook. 2) But next time, I need to use a MUCH bigger, MUCH better brush. 3.) It's DEFINITELY going to take more than one layer. 4.) Each layer I use needs to be thin (so it will come out streak free like the bottom half of the cover did). 5.) Above ALL, the biggest and most important lesson I learned here was that of patience. Patience is KEY, ladies and gentlemen.

Stay tuned for attempt #2. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like debacle...I mean, attempt #1 did.

Fantastic. I'm way too scared to do this but it looks like a great way to get your steels just how you like them. Maybe one day when I have more time to be brave :p

Good luck on your Next try and get a bigger Brush!!! Can't you get a hold of the Spray cans? Way easier and less messy :D

The spray would probably be better for me, but honestly, I didn't know it existed in an aerosol can. Is it just a clear coat spray or what? The stuff I'm using is a lacquer. It's REALLY nice stuff and I think it will work out well with the right tools (i.e. bigger brush LOL), but it will be a timely process. The spray seems like it would be MUCH quicker.

Yeah, from the pics, it looks great. It's not difficult to keep an even coat? Or to keep it from having drips in the coat? Any particular brand? Where did you buy it?

Got it at Autozone or you can try Advanced auto parts or Walmart. It's available thru amazon to. It goes on even without drips or runs. Make sure you use a hair dryer to speed up the process in between coats
