Don't like the spine, and not a fan of debossed/embossed steelbooks either but the embossing on the title looks amazing....

Really? Sorry to hear that :(. Personally I think this, with the Terminator artwork, has one of the better looking spine. Steelbooks with artwork on their spine are hard to come by.

Watched it last night....on SYFY. The love story is daft, Michael Biehn, "I love you Sarah, I always have". hahahahaha, from a picture!

I think you might be watching the wrong James Cameron film if it's romance you're after pal.

The love story between Biehn and Hamilton is a huge part of The Terminator, its just too stupid, the dialogue, the sex scene, the music (love story music, not the actual da da da dun da da soundtrack), all cringe-worthy plop.

Love stories play major parts in almost all of Cameron's films, The Abyss, Avatar, Terminator, and not just heterosexual although not homosexual either in Aliens (Newt and Ripley) and Terminator 2 (T-100 and John).

In The Terminator its sincere until the daft dialogue between Biehn and Hamilton in the motel when he tells her he loves her, dont know what loved up drug he was when he wrote that. Maybe Hamilton.

yes. of course.

There is something called learning from mistakes. This was his first in the Terminator franchise and you can see how much was a big improvement was T2.

Listen, you're criticising criticism. There are aspects of The Terminator which are incredibly significant for film making, especially over the last 25-30 years. I do believe Cameron is a ground breaking director. The casting of Arnie was his greatest achievement, it propelled both of them into super stardom, no one in Hollywood would say "no" to either after The Terminator (although some one should've said "no" before "Junior")

Cameron transformed the action sci/fi genre with this movie, films like The Matrix and Total Recall may not have been made if The Terminator hadnt.

...but the love story is, like The Terminator, too mechanical and soul less. Maybe Cameron meant it to be.

Sorry mate, to me Terminator is an action film first and I am not a romantic guy.

My ultra mini review

This is a simply superb restoration effort that puts the previous releases to shame. Film grain is present on the most of the scenes except for couple of shots but without sacrificing the details mainly the close ups. I found the facial details on this one to be more detailed and natural than Jaws. The opening scenes are a little bit underwhelming but that's due to the filming style. After the first 7 or 8 minutes, the PQ picks up and shines especially in the daylight scenes which looks colorful with a great degree of depth and dimensionality. As most of the movie is shot in the dark, you may find some parts to be a little bit noisy and less detailed. The new color timing is spot on and I couldn't notice any of those teal hues which appears to be widely prevalent on remastered releases nowadays.

Do not throw away your special edition DVD copy as this release is missing some special features but if you only care about the film then simply bin your copy and grab this release.

You might find the DTS-HD MA SQ to be slightly better than the PQ although the mono track isn't included. Also the track might be missing some original sound effects.

Update: One thing I forgot to mention is the grain could tend to look a tad digital / electronic in few shots but I didn't notice this negatively impacting the PQ.

When you are talking about the 'previous release' are you referring to the original blu-ray release? So the play.com release PQ and SQ is better than the blu-ray aamray I have now?

It wasn't just the polaroid was it. it was all the stories John Connor had told him. How much of a fighter she was, her strength. He fell in love with the mythos as much as the face in the foot.
