I hated the amaray artwork for thor and CA and was hoping they wouldn't use those. But since I don't own CA and Thor on steel, I will be buying these two despite the hideous artwork.

I missed the HMV one so I was hoping that Zavvi would release it with art as good as the HMV, I think I was wrong. They are sold out already but if I can, I would like to get my hands on a copy :)

I know we all love to bash Zavvi (and when it comes to price, usually we can), but I wonder how much say they have over which art is used.

We knew it had to be something that had already been used (fan mock-ups are great, but often the images used haven't been signed off by the licence holders) so it could be Paramount's call. Afterall, these are the official signed off images done by their designers and have approval by all the studio heads and cast members etc.

When you look at the Doctor Who DVDs, there's some great custom covers out there but we know that the BBC don't hold the rights to a lot of the images that fans use. Same with Shout/Scream Factory releases. They wanted to do new designs for Psycho II and III but Universal said no. They wanted the theatrical poster art only (even though they've used some shoddy Photoshop jobs themselves in the past) so Shout had little choice even if I'm sure they'd have come up with something amazing.

Covers on steelbooks are always going to divide consumers. I hate Robocop, it has the wrong font and is dull, many like it. Planet of the Apes is trying something new and a lot of people aren't happy, same with Die Hard and so on. I say, if in doubt, do with the theatrical poster art. That way, even if people don't like it, well, it was used to advertise the movie and not some new idea that could be even worse.

The almost certainly don't have any say at all over the artwork used, it's the studios or distributors who own the rights to the film and images that will decide

Ah, I gotcha! I've never had a problem with the A artwork, it's more about what it stands for, and given the amount of characters I think it would be too cluttered if it had been the poster.

Matter of taste I guess.

I'm hoping for the movie picture with the 4 main characters.
The same as the one on the brazilian tin box

Beautiful box.

Haha that back art has to be some kind of a joke. Like a bet between studios to see how horrible a steel can be before no-one actually buys it.

You know who I feel sorry for? Those who missed out, for whatever reason, on the HMV release. Now, the only way to get a Thor steelbook at a decent price is to convince themselves that this is ok... when it's not.

It's complete & utter garbage (imho), but hey... that's Zavvi.

If this steelbook has embossing/debossing, would that be game changer for some that don't want to get this but will?

The back art is lazy but no different than let's say MI trilogy steelbooks.

I agree that embossing or debossing (or both!) would be a game changer! Very high possibility as Zavvi has multiple exclusives with these features.

The artwork for this is pretty lame in my opinion. Captain America has much better artwork. Yet I loved Thor and didn't like Captain America that much. So I guess I will end up getting both since I don't have either movie yet.
