If this is the top of their game then I would worry greatly. They lowered the print run for overseas buyers in half and it still isn't sold out. The demand isn't there.

Was about to ask the same thing. If this release is so great and they cut the international stock in half why is everything still in stock? Just the posts on this site alone are what 20-25 quad packs? The stock for the 1/4 slip knocked down to only 130 copies and it doesn't sell out immediately? I agree with blu-steel the demand just isn't there for a catalog title like this.

you both are kind of quoting me. so I kind of reply :

if this is IMO top of their game it does not mean people like the movie as much as let's say ZDT. so sells slower.

btw, why did you not quote me ? and again, it was I saying it's them top of their game. not PA ! so posting speculations is not very cool towards them.

...of have I become some kind of guru over night, so my opinions are taken as absolute truth.

...and we do not know why they cut the inteternational stock. do we ? does not mean release is good.

...and does PA have to sell out all it's releases in a second to be one of the best - being top of their game !

The steelbook artwork is by Jonathan Burton.
So it would not be possible to left Burton out altogether
It's also the reason why Full Slip C artwork together with the steelbook looks a better match as both artworks is by Jonathan Burton.

I'm fully aware that Burton did the steelbook. And of course they could have left him out altogether. They could have had Domaradzki do the steelbook instead.

Not true.
Type A&B Slipbox Illustration by Krzysztof Domaradzki.
Steelbook & Type C Slipbox Illustration by Jonathan Burton.

I count two artists.

+ art cards have Paul Smith's artworks.
Plain has differing info in the quad pack description and the type C description, but it makes sense that type C is by Burton (it definitely has a different tone from the other two). Thanks for pointing that out.
I like ZDT releases very much too. but saying they are not top of their game is your view. my view is that they are still at the top of their game. official approval can be very tricky. it's not their fault if they cannot get one. (if they tried) putting same bonuses like poster would be repeating earlier releases. IMO this is excellent release.

...and by saying they are top of their game I mean there is no comparison - is there. what TTSS release it better than this ?! none.
They did it for The Master. They did for ISTD. They did it for ZDT. They claim that they're doing it for Oldboy. Just saying. Is this the best release of TTSS in existence? Yes! Is it the absolute best that Plain was capable of producing? We'll never know.

I promise I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm just saying that I feel like this could have better. (Insert Big Lebowski meme about opinions...)

I bet they lowered the print run so that people on the fence would panic buy out of fear that this complete borefest:sleep: would be in danger of selling out.
"Unexpected popularity in Korean market" -- puhleeez gimme a break:rofl::LOL:

it's good that we have a insider who know how things are. and why things turn out like they do.

I'm sorry that this 'borefest' is not up to par with cool and exciting movies like ... independence day. (le'ts load up that virus again, shall we...)

although I loved this film, obviously it wont be some peoples "cup of tea" :naughty:. Personally I think Plain don't choose titles based on their populatiry, just look at their catalogue, not the most mainsteam of hollywood films there. And that's why they opened the Plain Selective line, to do those more mainsteam hollywood films, broarden their customer base, mmmaaayybbee some of those customers would also be interested in their other releases too, who knows!

If some people think this film is a "borefest" that's their opinion and I am sure they have valid reasons that they understand. It's all subjective at the end of the day, afterall "film" is actually an art form and the variations and subjective opinions people have are unlimited. So I wont hold it against some people if they don't buy this, its their choice

@nefilim some weirdo's like myself like films like this one and Independece day :LOL: I just have a broad and open mind when it comes to film....not so great for the wallet these days though

got you and same time did not.

yes I'm aware of Plains releases.have most of them. And thank God they do not release mainstrem Hollywood. there's plenty of those who do. and there is world making films out there beside Hollywood, so why consentrate on Hollywood, only ?

sure 'borefest' opinions is his/hers. never denied that. like mine not liking ID4. never said I was right and them wrong.

what I did not like, nor will is making assuptions based on taste on movies.

like saying "Unexpected popularity in Korean market" -- puhleeez gimme a break. without knowing whats going. but suits one fine as he/she does not like the film. is that cool for in your opinion ?

I disagree. While I did convince myself into getting the quad pack, I think Plain has had much better releases in the past.

For me, ZDT was the "top of their game." For this TTSS release, the slips don't seem too boldly different. (As you'd expect, since they're all designed by the same artist.) But on ZDT, the slips were each unique (night vision PET slip, beautiful full slip, PET 1/4 slip with lenti effect--first of its kind). Like for TTSS, ZDT also had a one-click bonus. (TTSS has the Collector's Kit; ZDT had a separate shipping box and a rolled poster.) And the icing on the ZDT cake was Plain getting official approval from Kathryn Bigelow, including her reprinted signature on a special sticker to put on the steelbook package.

So while I think this is a great release from Plain, I would wholeheartedly disagree that this is the best they can do. They've been better in the past and I hope that they'll be better in the future.

which is pretty nice : (you kind of passed that and moved on ZDT's poster and separate shipping box.)

a Collector's Kit. Inside the high quality envelope, you'll find: Four Large Plain Archive Exclusive Artwork Postcards (210x148mm), 10 Character Cards, an Original Folded A3 Poster, and Two Stickers.

I might be in the minority but I like the 1/4 slip the most.

I do too, the back is great and all of PA's 1/4 slips are top notch.

Ended up going with type A though due to the finish and wanting to keep my PA fullslip set going. I really liked the movie but just don't like Burton's artwork on the steel enough to go for multiple copies. We'll see if that changes when in hand pics start coming out. :bag:

I think plain reacted quite quickly and realised there was less interest in international customers actually. Not a bigger demand in domestic, I don't think that was true, or it was at least semi true.

All I was trying to say was that people will like it and some will not, and there are different tastes

Discounted price still available...y i set my clock for this.
meanwhile i think the change in stock was just a marketing tool to get more preorders in.
