the exciting thing for the US folks, is that we now can walk into a store and get a steelbook straight off the shelf.

this hasn't happened on this scale, since the days of disney, way back when.

while a large amount of collectors have found forums like this one to find out more information about steelbooks, there are numbers of them that have no idea that these are out.

so long term, this is a good thing - most of the people out there don't import, so they never had a chance to get the Canadian steelbooks - so these are new to them.

I have just about every one of these in 1 shape or another - a couple I'll pick up at some point.

I think this basically says that the new releases from Warner will be in steelbook - if possible - like Sherlock Holmes 2.

This wave of steelbooks is great for US collectors as it will pave the way for future releases that may end up desirable. Not only desirable in the US, but desirable all over the world! We need to see the grander scheme of things here.

Besides, these have no inside art. That's akin to the german re-releases with printed FSK logos. The original releases still hold their value. I don't see anything wrong with re-releases, as long as there is always something to differentiate a re-release from the original. That is exemplified with this wave by the lack of inside art. Re-releases happen in several different collectible hobbies, so it's a reality in the world of collecting. As long as they are handled properly, they help the medium grow!

Since there seems to be more BB insiders here, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about what was posted on BR.com:

"All of these steelbooks are for an upcoming promotion. Everyone should hold off on buying them until the week of June 3-9, they will be $9.99 a piece."

It really doesn't matter with the price guarantee. I am just curious what promotion they would have when most of them might be sold out by that time?

Voight, I have opened 4 of the 20 myself and inspected them quite closely for art defects mostly. But I have yet to see anything that says "Made In Denmark" so I would really appreciate it if you can share where on the steelbooks you are seeing that label. For the record, each of the 20 has "Disc Made In Mexico" stamped on the shrink wrap on the back of the steelbook. I am getting old I know but I could not find anywhere on those 4 steelbooks where it says Made In Denmark (LOTR-Fellowship, Green Lantern, 300 and Clash of the Titans).

On the back lower left corner of the steel. Hangover, Last samurai and Sucker Punch of the ones i have say made in denmark. Yours dont?

I think the FS will retain at least %75 of their value because of the inside artwork, me personally I am tempted to now to try and make my own inside artwork and maybe repair my dented Bond that I got off Ebay.

I am wary about dismantling a steelbook someone might need to hold my hand during the process haha

Hey Roseart-I think this is a very unique situation, because of he varied experience people have had with these pick ups in store. I.e. some are letting them pick them up, and others are not. I am guessing the mad rush for some US collectors will cause qty's to be depleted, but since retailers, themselves, don't usually disclose the qty that was manufactured, etc, it's not clear if they'll be sold out. The low price may very well have been a deliberate strategy to draw attention to the Steelbooks (Marketing is needed in the US as these are not very common to every-day consumers). We'll have to wait and see...

I also discovered when ordering online you might be told it is on backorder, I canceled my Shawshank Redemption for just that reason and hope to pick it up in store instead if they ever make it to my store (there was none even in the back yesterday and employee searched for me).

Inferior? Not everyone cares about inside artwork. I for one don't walk up to my collection, open the steelbook and admire the inside artwork.

same here for me,the fact that there is an interior art is a plus, but does not matter a lot..

the most important for me is that one of the two sides(front or back) is good enough for me to expose( even though i really rather when i like/want expose both sides of course)

I find BB's customer service so abyssmal I don't want to ask them what the Hay is going on.So here I am trying to get the skinny from other SB fans

You bet! In case you cannot find one locally or online takes too long, V for Vendetta is available for purchase on Amazon.ca as well for a little bit more perhaps because it has inside art. Just want to make sure new folks are aware of such options since we have a very global membership

see! even when i'm still socked about BB having a massive wave and more coming up, i'm agree with you about steels being global, so we can have the best of the best, in this case i have more of them, i just picked up LOTR ones

here it depends if you are a collector or just want to buy it to upgrade your regular one, 10 for shipping it's not that bad at all if you want something really bad, in this case you won't regret it sin V for Vendetta is such a beautiful steel n the inside is awesome, besides you can order some other suff to reduce shipping...then again it's just me

Has anyone noticed some small paint Chips/scratches on LOTR (all 3) about 1/4 from the bottom and/or top on the front or back cover very close to the opening edge?
I did in store pickup for two sets today and they all looked fine when I checked them in store but then I got home and re-examined them and saw that both sets have these marks in the same place one set was acceptable with only pin sized marks only on the front but the other set was worse with larger marks and on the back as well at the same position as the ones on the front. I looked at the set that I bought on Thursday and noticed that those copies of FOTR and TTT also had these marks. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or if I should just try another BB store

But you know what just occured to me about this wave and no inside artwork. Think about how much fun you can have customizing interior artwork.

You want King Leonidas kicking those persions down the hole yelling "THIS IS SPARTA" - you got it.

If you want him throwing a Spear at Xerxes - you got it.

You want Evie dressed in her schoolgirl outfit - you got it.

You want Sweetpea giving you that look - you got it

Hell if you want Dr. Manhattan's big naked :ass: starting at you you can have it.

I for one am gonna have a good time with a few of these.

i just called my best buy to ask if they have these in stock, im so sick of their employees asking me what is a steelbook, and then they talk to me like im crazy after i explain to them what it is
