I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Hey HDN got a prety good shout out in a zavvi email i got today... a zavvi email that was actually worth readin 4 a change lol

This part made me lol tho

Gloss – Refers to a gloss paint finish to the steelbook. This can be applied to the steelbook in general, or can look fantastic when just applied in certain areas

..so zavvi DO no about the difference gloss makes to a steelbook then huh? WELL THEN WHY DONT U START USING IT ALREADY ...once in a blue moon dont count im afraird :squint:

The "Steelbook Monthly" is such a great thing for Zavvi to do! Actually hearing from a retailer regarding the ins-and-outs of steelbooks is awesome! Both Zavvi and the Entertainment Store over at Play.com are setting great examples of how steelbook retailers should be proud and invested in this particular product! Thanks so much Zavvi!

i got a mail from FEEFO on behalf of zavvi (see below), and i take this is a sign that zavvi now seriously starts to care and think about the critizism from the last months.

they are hearing us, fellas. this, with the newsletter, is definitely another step in the right direction from zavvi.

Ive done a few of those over the past year or so for anything ive bought from them. Hopefully they actually take on board the feedback on an individual basis and not just the correlated results.

I have just cancelled every single order (quite regretfully as i liked a lot) with Zavvi and asked them to delete my account. I've had quite enough of what is a ridiculous system of communication. What started as 3 out of 3 items being delivered damaged ended up as this. These were all box sets, not steelbooks, but sent in thin single-layer, bubble wrap for items weighing 2kg each. No box at all. IT IS COMPLETELY UNSATISFACTORY TO SEND ITEMS LIKE THIS AND IT IS COMPLETELY UNSATISFACTORY TO STATE THAT ONCE THINGS LEAVE YOUR WAREHOUSE YOU HAVE NO CONTROL - THE PACKAGING WAS INADEQUATE - YOU DO HAVE CONTROL OF THAT(3 out of 3 separate items damaged says you have got it wrong) It took far too long and far too many emails, twitter and facebook to get them to respond and then to be offered 10% discount. When we said we would send them back at their expense, they upped the ante and we settled with a partial refund. But since then the robotic and nonsensical responses to our questions continue to show us things are unlikely to improve.

The good news is a spare 500 a month more for Amazon, Kimchi, blufans et al, and far less stress.

PS I'm not Anti Zavvi - I like some of their Steelbooks, a lot of their box sets and some good prices if you pick n choose and use your discounts. Pity, they just gave me a 15% off all and i go and cancel.

PSS If you are reading Zavvi, the problems were quite simple to solve - packaging, communication.

Agree with everything you said. This is why I am no longer purchasing from Zavvi and looking else where.
Even though they cost more for me to import, these other retailers a so much superior with there packaging and customer services, untill i see further improvements I wont be using Zavvi again.

Personally, I have no real problem with Zavvi's customer service.

I do have a few problems with:

Packaging - I have written to them several times due to receiving a few Steelbooks damaged as the packaging - due to the postal services, not just the Post Office, tossing things round for fun, largely - is not up to the sort of treatment they receive.

As an aside, has anyone else noticed Amazon uk have started sending some steelbooks out in bubblewrap inside a regular Amazon box (the ones with the overlap ends)?

I digress.

Discount codes: They often arrive with just 48 hours to decide, plys they habitually exclude (most of the time) steelbooks and pre-orders.

I have written to complain that when people such as myself (aand lots of others, I'm sure) spend a lot of money with them and buy almost exclusively steelbooks, it doesn't say much for rewarding customer loyalty.
The agent said they would pass it on to a higher power - who'll no doubt ignore it

Also wrote to complain about the Jungle Book fiasco, and other similar events.

I pre-ordered mine as I really expected a short print run and a quick sell out - sure I wasn't alone.

Then some way down the line they are flogging them off for a tenner if you buy another title; and the poor sods who bought at full price get NOTHING - not even a bloody discount voucher!

Fair? I think NOT!

All that said, I do feel that if ALL Zavvi account holders registered complaints about these things, then they would realize that it's not just one or two unhappy 'punters' - and actually take steps to address the problems.

Ugh, it looks like my Taxi Driver steelbook never arrived at all. Is there something I can do? I had to order another one since I want to give it to a friend and there's no way I'm taking a chance of waiting for the 1st one to arrive.

I had a similar thing happen with my Planet of the Apes Steelbook. I just waited the requisite number of days after the expected delivery date (30 days I believe) and then sent a note to their customer service who promptly mailed out another one (I am expecting it in the mail any day now...hopefully;)).

Thanks for the advice. I'll do just that then.

I just received my copy of The Great Gatsby badly damaged and their first response was to offer a 20% refund. That is less than satisfactory to say the least. Hopefully they step up and make it right. I've bought just about every steelbook they've released after all.

20% refund is what they always offer at first.
but just write back and tell them that you want a replacement copy (or a full refund), and you got to return the damaged copy and get full refund also on return shipping costs (you have to keep the post office receipt though).

I just received The Game in the mail..... Was in the mint condition.... But had no disc.

I swear you can't make this stuff up.

I'm thinking of just buying the criterion disc and putting it in there.

Is the criterion transfer better?

Received my Pacific Rim and Castlevania Lords of Shadow today. One of the copies of pacific rim had a nice dent in the back and was bent in a curve shape and the Castlevania was opened on the top as though the plastic wrap was never properly sealed. I almost dropped it on the floor because it came flying out of its slip case when I tried to open the shipping box. I hope this isn't the start of a bad run for me, I've had great luck with Zavvi up to this point.
