I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Just noticed that my order placed for X-Men on 30th May has been cancelled without my knowledge.
With the experiences I have had with this company I can safely say that they are the worst steelbook retailer (possibly overall online retailer) out there that I have used.
It is such a shame that it is Zavvi who took over all the steelbook exclusives from Play as there are other companies out there who I'm sure would be able to do a much better job.

well that's twice now zavvi have completely refused to tell me what the print run of the Pinocchio steelbook is. So their allowed to call it a 'limited' release without revealing the print run. I guess they could be considering getting the print run increased. Apart from that I can't think of a reason that they wouldn't reveal it...

Thanks for the info. Glad I cancelled my pre-order now for it, as I'm sure with an unlimited print run I'll be able to get one of these off the bay for half the current price. :)

Hmm, toilet paper? Maybe we should send them a few rolls so they could provide at least some basic protection to the steels they are shipping. Anything is better than nothing. :hilarious:

Precisely. And it would be in keeping with the theme of their sh**ty packaging.
And, of course, also because whoever made the final decision to package the steels
in this way has sh*t for brains.

I just sent the message below to Zavvi's customer service, though I'm sure it won't change anything for the better. Perhaps if more people speak up?

Hello,I have ordered (& have lots of PRE-ORDERS) with your website for Steelbook Blu-rays to be shipped to the United States. Unfortunately, someone in your company has made the horrible decision to stop using the box mailers with thin padding & instead use a even WORSE Cardboard mailer envelope with absolutely NO PADDING whatsoever! I can honestly say I am hugely disappointed by the cost cutting measures your company has imposed on myself as the consumer. I understand you have made this decision to maximize your profits, but you will cause more issues & more damaged items to your customers. I am pleading with you to fix this, otherwise I will cancel my orders & cease all business with Zavvi.

Well I thought there would be some sort of packaging update from hdn, seen as though many get inside information. It really does make you think twice about getting their limited exclusives, if there is a chance you will get a damaged one, then not been able to get a replacement because it is sold out. Yes you can keep a damaged steel, with the measly 10% discount, but you shouldnt have to do that.

new packaging from Zavvi....ordered Lebowski and King Kong from them and it was delivered by yodel in this box....

a one off? or are we getting better packaging?

Are they now running out of mailers too? EEK!

If items are shipped together they can forget about ordering from Germany. 25 € is the toll-free limit for items shipped from Guernsey. Surprise surprise, that's the equivalent of about 19,99 GBP, the price of most of the Zavvi exclusive steels and the reason they are shipped individually no matter how many you order. "Honi soit qui mal y pense" ;)

Well i think that zavvi either need some new customer service reps or should get out of the steelbook game as they obviously don't understand the customers who buy them.

Here's the reply I got from trying to find out the Pinocchio steelbook print run and asking them if they are planning to increase the print run seeing as they cannot tell me the print run.

Hello David,

Thank you for getting in touch about our Steelbooks.

It is company policy not reveal the print run of products so that customers do not purchase in bulk for the purpose of resale, as stated in section 9 of our terms and condition:

http://www.zavvi.com/terms-and-conditions.info

We are a consumer website, not a wholesaler, so the information would be irrelevant to those wishing to purchase the item for personal use.

If there is anything else that we can do, then please do not hesitate to get in touch and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Kind regards,

Dorian

For me this is a real shame as i do like alot of the products they put out but they have soooo many problems...

There are probably tthree main types of customers who buy Steelbooks

1.>Those that collect them and leave them unopened
2.>Those that buy them beacuse they prefer the look who open them to watch the film
3.>Those that buy them to resell them.

You could say Zavvi want to get rid the of the third one, so the first two can buy them at reasonable prices.

Ironically, only one of Zavvi's exclusives as of recent times has gone for double the retail price, 'Frozen'. All scalper copies excluding that title go for cheap. Beetlejuice went for just over £10, delivery inclusive, the other day.

In all honesty though, I wouldn't expect an e-tailer to reveal info like this to the normal customer.

You'd be better off asking the main man Wreck

Why should Zavvi or any other shop really bother who buys their products? It's a business not the salvation army! The only thing they care about is the profit they make by the end of the year. What differnce does it make whether they get the money from scalpers or normal collectors? That's an SEP (Somebody Else's Problem).
