Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

Nice to see that my advice worked Leshita! Somehow i knew Scanavo was looking after us collectors. Good luck that the guys from paypal accept this! If they don´t accept a letter from the producer they won´t accept anything.

Thanks, I hope it works.
I am getting some weird responses from Paypal after I submitted the documents though. It went to the 'Paypal is reviewing the case' right after I submitted the letter, but then a few minutes I received an e-mail reminding me to submit my documents within 3 days or risk having my case closed. I logged back in and it looks like it reverted back to 'Requiring your response' even though my documents are still showing as uploaded.
I just got off the phone with their CS and she said everything looks fine and I submitted everything that was required of me. She told me she will submit the response for me, but it still says 'Requiring your response' on the claims page right now for some reason. :s

Since Im getting another Drive on the way from a forum member, should I just open this one to keep since it is already dented? I dont REALLY mind, but it aint gonna hold value even if it's sealed right?

Yeah, no one will want a dented copy - I mean it's not worth the same as a mint one, if that's what you are asking...assuming you don't want to return it to HMV.

Well, I just got a reply from Paypal saying that my full refund is granted... the only catch?
I have to return my package to Germany with full tracking which will cost me at least $65. :(

This is really like no refund at all; I am going to call them again to see if there's anyway around this. Anyone ever had this happen to them with international purchases? Really hate how Canada has no economical way of shipping with tracking internationally. :/

That's what I thought too was just paper stuck to the back from glue. I don't recommend Goo Gone anymore though. According to Andy it can cause damage to the SteelBook. This is what he recommends.

So far it has proved useful, especially on slip covers on regular Amaray cases. I would never thought of butter but yeah, it works wonders for removing stickers/labels or leftover glue.

Is this true? :S
I should be worried then as I have used it a few times.
What does it do exactly (besides making it stink :p)?

Here's a couple pics I uploaded from the other thread showing my Hancock steel that used goo gone.

Wow, that sucks. I have only tried it on the Arkham City Steelbook, so maybe that was fine because it was mostly unpainted silver. I guess I am never using that again on my Steelbooks... now I don't know why I bought it. :p

Well after my fantastic service from Amazon.ca replacing my dented Pan's Labyrinth steelbook and sending it out via priority mail, this one has even more dents. Some are on the back, and granted they can't be seen prior to opening but the two on the front were VERY visible through the shrink-wrap!!! Their packers/pickers need to be shot.

Their customer service representatives who reply to emails should however be commended. That will be the first and last time I order from them I think :(

Yeah, the customer service department and the packing department really need to start speaking to each other. No matter how many times the lovely CS people tell me sorry, they'll replace the damaged steelbook, upgrade delivery and let me keep the damaged one, I just know the replacement isn't going to turn up any better packaged and probably dented too. I Don't know what happened with amz.ca, their packaging used to be ok but now it's just rubbish.

I have same problem with amazon.ca. It's just a lost cause, I'm afraid, everything turns up damaged. It just means I have to source any Canadian releases through eBay or ideally through a buddy on here. Such a pity amazon can't get it together on packaging.

I do think that sometimes this hobby is a little bit of a lottery especially when buying off eBay etc, but as those of you that have traded or bought from me will know, packaging is VERY important to me! So I was amazed when this turned up at the weekend (not as good as the polystyrene plates from last year, but...)

Steelbook inside jiffy bag - NO additional wrap!

Side view of the package - you can just about see from the picture, but basically the sender has posted in a jiffy bag with the end torn off (steelbook didn't fit) and then used wrapping tape to sealed the package, but that's the edge of the steelbook you can see! Unbelievably there were NO dents and the wrapping tape came off without leaving any marks - I had to leave positive feedback as I got my item as described and mint, but I felt compelled to warn other buyers so added 'despite packaging'..

Thats insane, didn't even have a bag to fit the steelbook, let alone addition protection

Indeed! I can only guess that somehow the package landed on a bed of feathers in the back of the postal van and sat there safely cushioned until it was delivered to my house ;) - it defies logic that it survived given how many amazon, play, etc parcels don't reach members in perfect condition!..EEK!

Just received Shawshank Redemption, highly anticipated delivery but gutted due to it being bent just past the middle so much that it doesnt sit flat on a surface!!!

Does anyone know what the returns policy is like from Planet Axel? The packaging it arrived in was not damaged so it was not damaged by postie and must have been sent out damaged to start with!!! :tear:

I'm sorry to hear that. Axelmusic is even worse than Amazon.ca. :( They also state you have to accept damages.

PLEASE BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT MINOR (IF ANY) DENTS IN THIS PRODUCT.

Just e-mail the customerservice, that it is no minor damage and the lack of packaging.

Yeah i read that but like you say its not minor delivery damage! Oh well all i can do is get in touch with some pics later and see what they say, then report back here :ohno:

I didn't have a damaged steelbook delivered to me, but I'm still pissed at USPS and the ACS. I got my mail last night, and I finally received my 1 year anniversary mug from the American Chemical Society. Much to my chagrin I see that the USPS re-taped the package, and said it was received damaged. Really my f'in mug was cracked in half. Pissed at the ACS too because they seem to have just dropped a mug in a box with no packaging materials. No wonder it f'in cracked in half. Son of a *****.... I hope they will send out a replacement

Home now heres my dodgy pics, they really dont do justice to how gutted i am :(

Anyway flagged it up on planetaxel just wait to see what they say now

Just got my Amazon.Ca order. As expected the steelbooks were just thrown into a box with no extra protection. Dented steelbooks galore...
Someone from Amazon.de needs to visit Amazon.ca and teach them how to pack.
