Can we get a sticky for this? :D

What do ya'll prefer to drink? Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor, Wine Coolers? All of them?

I only drink Beer and Hard Liquor. Mint Mojito is about the only thing close to a wine cooler I'll drink though LOL

I had a fantastic big brew day .. I made up an Irish Red that is currently exploding in the shower... here let me show you:

I had to take the airlock off of course and its resting in a glass of cheap vodka to stay sterile so when this beast stops puking I can cork it and make it safe from the bugs. I like vigorous fermentations like this because it means the yeast are happy as hell and are making my beer delicious!

I'm hung over as well.. and I have to goto a beer judge meeting today and... drink more beer - although this time its in much smaller amounts.

Cheers!

EDIT: <snicker> now I'm a "special member"

I thought that was poo for some reason lol

Im picking up some De Molen Rasputin Imperial Stout today. This stuff is brewed only brewed once or twice a year in limited quantities. I guess the 2007 batch there were only like 300 bottles. It from Brouwerij de Molen in the Netherlands but it should be awesome. You can age it for up to 25 years so I have 2 set aside for me one for now and one for years down the road. Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!

Nice work, thats a stiff beer to have, although I question whether it's worth the price tag, but that's what you get when it comes to rare beers.

Personally I enjoyed it very well, great plum/fig character and good dark chocolate notes. I, like some fellow beergeeks, think it's more of a belgian strong than an imperial stout.

Do report back!

EDIT: Who's your connection for getting these?

Man I got a lot to learn from you two lol

Drink more beers.

When I started this mess I found the liquor store with the widest selection of beer and every week I'd buy a mix your six or a bottle of whatever.. I worked methodically from one side of the store to the other avoiding obviously crappy beers like budmillercoors and specialty beers with vegetables or fruits in them - saved those for last.

Then I sat on beeradvocate/ratebeer.com and read others reviews while I drank each one to get an idea of how to describe what I was experiencing.

Of course you then want to find out what the ultimate examples of beer are so you get ludicrous and spend $70 to have 3 bottles of Westvleteren 12 shipped to your house from belgium (For the math impaired that's ~$23 per 11.2 oz Bottle). Or spend $25 on a 24oz bottle of stout. Or $18 on a 6 pack, etc...

...and after you taste one of the best beers in the world you do silly things like join clubs and start brewing. You start throwing dollar after dollar at a hobby and at the hope you'll find yet another best beer in the world just to experience the thrill of the first sip of awesome beer all over again...

yeah its definitely not cheap but I think for trying it once its worth it. I get it from a local beer/liquor store. The guys gets a lot of different beer and usually puts some aside for me if its rare.

I also had some Uerige Doppelsticke from Germany the other day that was a very tasty one. Then I bought some St Bernardus Abt 12. as you can see Im trying to drink beers from outside of the US. lol

beer is definitely my new favorite hobby

Bevmo is the only place near me that has a large selection of beer. Liquor stores around here all have the same generic crap. I usually buy a few of my fave's and then try some random beers from around the world.

Yeah, there's not that many places I know. Bevmo is the closest thing to a wide selection. I did check Ratebeer.com and Westvleteren 12 was on my list a few months back just never got around to read more and where to get it.

Only place I found that will ship it to the U.S. to your door is belgianshop.com

here you go: Westvleteren 12

it's forbidden by the monastery to resell it therefore any bottle you acquire not from the monastery directly at their gates is considered illegal, FYI.

It took about 3 weeks for me to receive my bottles. They have to acquire them from the monastery and then they ship them somehow directly to your door.. It's a hair puller waiting, but you get them - follow the tracking # so you can get them outta the box and into cold storage quickly... recommended to keep them at 50-55 degrees until ready to consume.

with all that traveling who knows if light got to it, if it was shaken or if it went through any major temp changes? how was it packaged? and if its illegal what can happen? I would love to get my hands on it.

mine turned out okay.. packaged very well individual bottles wrapped in bubble wrap which were then all wrapped in even more bubble wrap and then all the voids were filled with packing peanuts. Mine even were still relatively cool, I'd say about 60-65, so no permanent damage, there was condensation that had formed on the bottles in the packaging so there was some weird wetness that scared the crap out of me, but no broken bottles - undoubtedly they'll get shaken, just put one in the fridge and let it settle for a day or two before trying it.

not sure what can happen? The guy that works there, brutus or whatever, was very very very nice in answering my questions and he responded quickly to me. I even explained to him that I was nervous about sending this much money and hearing horror stories about it taking weeks he responded with a precise timeframe for me and he delivered exactly as explained so he wins my business if I ever go insane and do this again
