I'd blame limited runs.
Produce an unlimited amount and then no problem with scalpers.
But some people only collect because they're limited.
A vicious circle jerk.

That is spot on, if the print run is too high people aren't interested. If there is a low print run it generates more hype which is good for Steelbook collectors but will inevitably lead to people buying for resale purposes. That's the way it is and has been for a long time. There was plenty of advance notice on the forum about when the steelbook was going live and it was always going to sell out quickly with all the interest. To all the people who missed out I would say keep a look out as there is usually cancellations before the steelbok is released so their may be another chance to get hold of a copy.

Kimchi limited to 3 copies per customer. So it was perfectly fine to order 3. Float one copy and try your luck. If it sells well then the buyer made a wise choice and got more money to fund more purchases. However if the buyer opened multiple accounts to secure more than 3 then it is pure greed.

No to start any arguments, but I actually like everyone sharing their opinions (complaining and celebrating) its kind of what the forum is here for. Those that actually secure the limited editions feel more excited to have gotten it when others weren't able to, those that celebrate add to it too. Let's be honest, most of us are into this because it is an emotional hobby, you win some you lose some. Someone posted in the Thor thread (I think) that the scalpers are like villains and every good story has heroes and villains. How boring would this hobby be if everyone was posting "I got one" "me too" "I got 3 cause I want to gloss one and keep one sealed" but there was never a "man I missed out" or worse - what if no one posted anything. None of us would know if it was a big deal that we picked up a FS Iron Man. We would just be like "well that's a pretty case" now I'm hungry. We should all keep up the whole drama. Its what makes this "sport" fun. Some you will win, some you will lose.

I bought 2 houses for $200, 000 each. To emsure that potential buyers don't consider me a scalper, I will never sell mine for above the cost price as commonsenee and money are secondary in contrast to be called Mr. Nice Guy once in a bluemoon. Wish the world was such a kind and generous place.:hilarious:

The point is that none of this should be necessary. I'm not talking as someone who has missed out either. I have pre-ordered all of the 2000/2500 print run titles from Zavvi. I simply find it annoying that genuine collectors are missing out because some individuals are clearing out the stock in the hope of making a quick profit. QUOTE]

If 'real' collector's wanted it they had 2 hours to get it. There are no excuses. They were given a time. PKAVFC' s comments have to be the most sensible I have heard in a while.

i'm a real collector and i wanted this and i still missed it, some people just can't make that 2 hour window to get it and don't expect it to sell out in 2 hours anyway, i really don't see why zavvi can't limit the amount even if it's just for 24 hours and give the collectors at least a chance of getting one but i guess they want to create this panic to keep people on there hook like a fish ;)

I don't get all the moaning about scalpers. Yes it's annoying but it happens with anything and everything that is either limited and/or desirable. Art prints, concert tickets, etc...

it's not the scalpers, i don't blame then for wanting to make some extra money, after all thats what the world is all about but why can't zavvi just limit the amount you can have for just 24 hours, would that really hurt them.

I won't repeat my thought on it mate, but what I will say, in this day in age, with phones, tablets and internet coverage almost anywhere, then ordering should be possible.

However, whatever kept you from ordering that date and time, despite the prior warning, is obviously worth so much more than a steelbook, so that's the most important thing. I am saying it's just a steelbook, other things out there are more important

I think there are more passionate collectors on here than others, it appears the more laid back are open to missing out.

Part of the hobby for me is the thrill of the chase, the possibility of missing out, so that's what kept me accessible to the internet from 5pm-7pm

This will probably get worse. It looks like Zavvi had cottoned on to the fact that non-Disney 4000 runs don't tend to sell out. They are moving to 2500 and now stopping shipping to certain countries. It makes you think that they can sell limited copies to the UK without the hassle of shipping internationally. This will be a nightmare for those who are collecting the Disney Steelbooks. Let's hope they agree to GBs

when we are talking about collectors items, or at least items promoted as having limited availability, i think it is definitely wrong that people can buy multiple copies.

You cannot realy blame them. Their purpose and goal is in the end to make the most money possible.
They clearly begin to see some patterns and yes, 2000-2500 ultra limited editions sell out and fast! Probably more interesting for them than to have normal editions that stay in stock for ages and they have to offer at 10.00€ or less to sell them...especially on back catalogue titles. We will certainly see more of them in the future
