I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Comes back to my original point. How do the steels get cut in the first place. I've opened plenty of boxes in my time with CD's and DVD's and I can't think of any time where I would cut straight into the box with items in it.

I have had a few DVDs and Games from Amazon that have been spine slashed, its just employees being careless when opening boxes and digging the knife in deep

The one time I've gotten a defected steelbook from Zavvi, they were pretty good and quick about sending me a new one. I didn't have to send the original back or anything like that. Hopefully if I do get a damaged Cinderella (crossing my fingers that I don't), then the process to get a new one won't be a nightmare.

Couldn't they just put an additional piece of cardboard on top of the Steelbooks, so that when the person cuts open the box theyre cutting into cardboard and not the SBs.

haven´t recieved my Cinderalla yet but here´s hoping it does not come with a free spine cut.. don´t think I´ve recieved many of those from Zavvi yet.. having said that for me it used to be HMV that hah the worst track record regarding spine cuts... every 2nd one had one of those... at some point I´ve imagined employees attacking boxes with a machete or something...
I guess the general problem is that the boxes they´re unpacking are not their property so they just don´t give a crap..? .. only logical explanation for me since I´ve opened 100´s of parcels and yet have to damage one single item in the process..

Now got to sit on my copies waiting a few days for their support to get back to me and then I have to send them back before they'll send a new couple out. They could be damaged too.

I think it all stems from poor QA in the warehouse, the packers are under pressure to pack as many items as possible and don't seem to care if steelbooks get slashed or CD's, clothes, toys etc pretty much whatever they are packing is damaged. They don't seem to have anyone monitoring the packing process, it's just 'quick, pack as much as possible or we get sacked if we don't pack a certain amount of parcels'?

I don't know, who does really know, surely zavvi must look at the amount of damaged media returns and think about how they can remedy the packing QA process?

I wouldn't mind but the return process sucks, you HAVE to send them pics and then if your lucky you may get a response and then have to send it back with or without a collect+ label so you may even have to pay return postage costs which they never refund and then wait for ages again until it goes oos and you end up with a refund!

I used a code on this and points too, will probably end up with a refund. I have had so many issues with zavvi, I could write a book about all the crap I have had from them over the last 6 months or so, I never knew the HMV.com website going and also play.com packing up was going to end up like this.

Oh and logged on today to see that my FDTD has been cancelled, nice of them to let me know after I spent over an hour at work waiting for it to go live for a milli-second, they even managed to cock that up too!

There, that will do it for now, sorry folks :hilarious:

Sorry to hear about these spine slashed steels guys. Even my regular amaray jumbo of The Hobbit 2 had a spine slash on the lenti slip grrr. This slasher gotta be stopped :(

I feel everyone's pain regarding spine slashes. It is unfortunately a common theme here in the USA as well. At least we get to pick and choose the copies we want and when it comes to e-retailers it's next to impossible to do that. There needs to be better standards for retailers. For steelbook boxes, they should put a strip of cardboard or foam over the steelbooks that are exposed to the box opening in order to prevent the metal blade from hitting the steelbook. This problem could be resolved if retailers actually cared enough, which they should, considering the time wasted dealing with these type of queries and the money lost in providing partial refunds.

As an earlier post said no quality control anymore they haven't got time to check every product for flaws/damage.
If anyone watched the undercover programme on tv about working for Amazon it isn't hard to see why damaged products are sent out to customers.

I'm very close to snagging a copy of Bambi, but at £20 to possibly end up receiving this with a slash of any sort will crush me and then to be offered a £3 partial refund from Zavvi is in the end, not worth the trouble. Shame as this steelbook looks gorgeous.

Are spine slashes created by the machinery used to package steelbooks or by those who unseal the batches? :wtf:

If they'd slash the prices and not the spines I'd be more than happy

Believe me, price slashes when people have just pre-ordered recently are as scary as spine slashes..which makes sense to me.

I hope they can sort this out...imo the last Disney Steelbooks have been amazing, from the pictures, and I'd be very disappointed if mine came with slashes, too (mine have not come yet :ohno:).

As mentioned in one of the release threads, I did mention that this was occurring as soon as I saw some of our members' comments.

Fingers crossed they can (or have) identified the source of this particular instance of spine damage...

So... is it safe to buy from Zavvi? I mean, they're not suspect to this "heartbleed" internet infection are they? Someone informed me I should stay away from using my credit card online until it's over. I would ask elsewhere but I'm running out of places to ask for assistance. Anyone know if it's safe to buy? Cheers.
