I send an Email to zavvi, asking about the 10€ shipping charge to Finland, and this what they send me:

"Thank you for getting in touch about ordering with us.

I have looked into this for you and I have found that as of now this is the price we are charging to ship items to Finland"

So that means, bye, bye zavvi, it was nice working with you while it lasted. There is no way that i am going to pay 10€ for shipping, especially when its just one pre-order steel.

Shipping is free if it goes over 100€, so just have to pre-order in large groups :p Of course those ultras are quite no-go, as they sell out so quickly. I think I can bare it with when it comes to my Sin City pre-order (I must to!), but not so sure about Copland. All in all, it's a shame that those ridiculous shipping fees appeared. :violent:

I keep trying to contact Zavvi regarding a graze on my Bambi steelbook and they keep referring me to the returns department even after stating I'd just like a deduction to my card. Maybe I've exceeded my credit deduction allowance and they're not putting up with any more of my sh...

Would be nice if they told me why instead of sending a generic copy and paste spiel.

received a scratched ted steelbook from zavvi, contacted them to say i wanted to return for a refund due to my poor track record regarding damaged steelbooks from them. they then replied, asking me to send photos of the damage so they could assess it and make a decision as to how they would resolve the issue.......
it's a scratched £8.00 steelbook, for god's sake!!!! why do i have to prove the item's damaged before they will authorise the return? why are zavvi treating customers in such an appalling manner?

From what I've read nearly everyone got a chipped Ted. Here's my copy:

I got a £1.31 partial refund out of it. No point returning for a replacement if the replacement is gonna be the same, right? How does yours look?

I had 220 Rewardz points missing, I'm unsure how, so I contacted them explaining the issue and they replied within three days, given it was Easter as well and sorted it out within the next two days, were apologetic, helpful, and sincere.
Credit where it's due.

Zavvi had some steels in their 'last few remaining' section recently which strangely doesn't seem to exist anymore. Some of those titles such as The Game and Twelve Monkeys despite being in that now disappeared section are still available. Am very suspicious of them are their 'last few remaining' claims. Ho-hum :)

Had 2 steels today. Scott Pilgrim came in the normal white box, but Bill and Ted came in a cardboard envelope. :/ Hope they're not cutting back on packaging...

It has happened to me a couple of times but very rarely. Its either a glitch in their system or someone being lazy

Full slip is back for sale. If Zavvi did this I am sure there would be immediate criticism and the soft corner for Asian retailers no matter what they do which I think is what snoo meant few posts back.

Yes I know, but Zavvi are devoid of all communication

Within a couple hours we had communication from Kimchi via Mr Choi what the deal was, and that the full slip was going back up for sale, so I personally give Tony the benefit of the doubt here
He obviously had to get his numbers right with orders

What's the difference between Choi telling us a Kimchi release will be available again and DB telling us a Zavvi release will be available again? Nothing. The only difference between the two retailers is that Kimchi can do no wrong whereas Zavvi can't do anything right in the eyes of most members, even though they are very similar.

What it comes down to is generally people are willing to wait for or deal with complications when they feel like a release is substantial enough. Unfortunately people don't feel like zavvi complications are worth the end result.

Come on, give Zavvi some love so these guys quit whining... :p

So the website says 'sold out' but it isn't actually sold out? That sounds like a rather familiar scenario but instead of hysterical criticism we have acceptance and even praise

pitiful... :hilarious:

While I agree that some of the crap levelled at Zavvi is OTT, in some cases they bring it on themselves with random pricing changes (Ultra print runs starting at £14.99 then being upped to £17.99) and their appalling customer service. Plus, their communication is abysmal.

The problem with Zavvi is that pretty much EVERY one of their exclusives goes out of stock and then literally hundreds of copies miraculously appear on their site or, even worse, on their ebay outlet for a jacked up price. Hell even Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid were "sold out" on Zavvi at one point and they are still in stock to this day despite numerous price drops and offers.

Whereas 99% of the time when an exclusive sells out on Kimchi or Blufans then it is gone. This is the only example I can think of when they said sold out but it actually wasn't. I know they sometimes get a few copies back in stock due to cancellations but they are always willing to say how many items that includes and when they will be sold again etc. Plus they at least communicated that fact within hours of it happening, whereas with Zavvi people can be waiting weeks to hear news of items coming back in stock. Look at the Ultimate Avengers - that took months and then a ton of stock turned up.

So the reason Zavvi get a bit more flack is because they communicate nothing until it suits them, and even when they do give details of dates/times for things going live or coming back into stock they often miss them, put things up early/late or whatever. If Zavvi said things and then stuck to what they said - they wouldn't get as much flack in my opinion.

Personally I'm surprised this sold out so fast, especially after Amelie, but I'm happy all the same. Gives me hope that some other unique release will do the same and we won't just be stuck with an endless array of Marvel stuff.

If you can't see the difference, then I can't make you see it

I am also not going to debate it, as this thread is about "The Pianist" not Kmichidvd the retailer

I think the sheer number of releases nowadays means that Steelbooks will always go in and out of stock. A lot of collectors pre-order first and then evaluate those pre-orders later. If there are other release they would rather obtain, then some are cancelled. A good example is I Saw the Devil. The Zavvi exclusive sold out very quickly, but another release has since been announced by Plain Archive which means many will cancel their Zavvi orders. Therefore a lot of stock is going to be available in the future. As for TJB and TLM, it is common knowledge that the print run was increased which is why they are still around.

There is a huge difference when DB gets info from zavvi. Its to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. Look at all the stuff that ended up being BS from zavvi that they were telling insiders that didn't come true. Zavvi also pulls its ultra low limited runs and or 4000 print runs from listings after they have been hyped to death on this message board. This is a KNOWN FACT.

CREDIBILITY has gone away at zavvi and sales are proving it. It aint rocket science. You have good customer service and don't keep on lying you are going to succeed in business. My whole business model relvolves around being friendly and do what the customer wants. My business is thriving. IN fact we might have to hire a extra part time worker to help us handle the load.

There's a difference between 'known facts' and 'speculation', I think you are confusing the two.

If you can't see the difference, then I can't make you see it

If you would rather post a patronising statement instead of a real response, that's fine. I'm sure a mod will be along to clean this up shortly anyway, so there's no need to worry.

I don't disagree that stock levels can fluctuate - but with Zavvi it seems to happen on EVERY release. Often comically so. Plus, it happens with their releases even when there is no competing release of the same film. So much that items that can be "sold out" for months will then reappear and seemingly be in stock forever. It's become a running joke that whenever a Zavvi steel is "sold out" it will inevitably come back at some point - how many Asian steels can you say the same for?

Whereas the Asian retailers sell out fast, stick to their listed print runs and IF (a big if) there are cancellations then it is usually a very small number that is announced well in advance of being put back up (or sold via a GB somewhere).

So when you ask why there is no outcry in this case, as opposed to Zavvi, it's because Kimchi actually bothered to pause the sale, check their stock and then say there will be more available straight away. Zavvi would NEVER do that, and just leave it as sold out for weeks before either sending out misinformation (how many times have they said when something is going live again and then botched it?) or just randomly having it NOT be sold out anymore.

As others have said it is purely about communication. Some retailers take the time/effort to let their customers know what is going on and some just do what they want and then wonder why people get annoyed. It doesn't help Zavvi that a lot of their offerings are inferior (when comparing the same films) to those released elsewhere and they seem to jack up prices when they think they can get away with it (not saying the Asian steels aren't expensive, they can be, but they are generally of a much better quality).
