I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Zavvi just don't get the collector aspect of steelbooks & the reason we buy them.
Whether keeping them sealed or opening them we all want a nice pristine package for our favourite films. They don't get that we display them on stands or buy protective covers to keep them in mint condition Kimchi get this which is why their releases are top quality & numbered with art cards etc & packaged properly.
Zavvi have flooded the market with steelbooks some good some awful but it's a cash in on a market they don't really get.
Despite this if you buy something new whatever it is it should be perfect.
The inadequate packaging shows they don't have an idea or care about the standard we collectors expect. Its all about money & this latest cardboard envelope trial is a way of cutting corners. Apart from Kimchi the standard of steelbooks is dropping.
I will try for Kimchi infernal Affairs & Drive & once they are done i might pack the whole thing in.
I love HDN there are brilliant genuine people on here who care about each other with brilliant humour which makes me laugh out loud on a regular basis.
It Angers me the way Zavvi treat people who spend hundreds of pounds to be treated as if we are idiots. Zavvi will end up the same as their high street shops if they are not careful.
I've spent a fortune over the last year and a half on Steelbooks probably too much but feel I am coming to the end of the road as far as collecting is concerned.I may just go with kimchi despite their website issues as there is a genuine buzz & satisfaction when you receive a pristine kimchi Steelbook. I don't get that anymore from Zavvi.
Apologise that I strayed off topic but rant over.

Anybody else get the following email from Zavvi?
QUOTE]

Yes, got this mail too. Still waiting for my copy to arrive. Keeping my fingers crossed it won't be damaged.

Not quite sure which packaging they mean, the usual box or the cardboard envelope. The envelope without at least some basic padding? :ohno::ohno:

Or do they consider if the damage rate is only 1% they paid too much on packaging on the other 99%?

I've had two steel book orders from them go missing :(

Same here. One completely missing, and one empty box with only the protective foam in it. And a note from customs that the box was really empty! Weird.

Hmmm. Mailer with foam is new packaging.

Really? Last few things I ordered from Amazon came in the exact same card envelopes?

So this is the new packaging for SteelBooks?!?!? Obviously a corporate decision made by faceless suits looking at pricings and wondering how to squeeze a few pence more profit.

In a weird way this could be good news for HMV, if they can keep the prices down then they may find more people coming in for non-exclusive SteelBooks and buying other things. Although bad news for people who don't have a HMV near them.

just got email from zavvi about this steelbook

Thank you for placing order 40293229 with us.
There may have been a packaging error when shipping your recent order of the V For Vendetta Steelbook, unfortunately at the packing stage, protective foam was missed out of some orders.
As an apology, we'd like to offer you 10% off your next order at zavvi.com.
Discount codes can be used across most of our categories with the exception of electronics, computing and games consoles, your code will be valid for three months. Please see our terms and conditions for more information.

I never get stuff in evelopes from Amazon UK. They have a new flat box that they is specifically made for steelbooks. If you order more than 2 they usually put them inside another box so its pretty safe. Of course they also still use those "floater" type box that it rests inside of and those leave marks on the plastic wrap. At least I didnt get any inside a plastic envelope with no padding like zavvi have done in the past.

..these white boxes.. every second of them arrives kinda open over here and I´m quite surprised that hasn´t happened to me already.. so far the SteelBook was always still inside *fingers crossed*

...having said that ..it would be GREAT if we could get an OFFICIAL Zavvi statement in here SOON how they´re going to send out SteelBooks from now on...

I am sure this "experiment" can be considered a TOTAL FAILURE and I HIGHLY doubt that piece of "foam" would have changed any outcome...
if this cardboard mailer with that piece of toilet paper "foam" is the way they´re going from here on out I´d like to know NOW because I would immediately cancel the majority of my pre-orders as I don´t find this "russian SteelBook roulette" very entertaining

Weird. Perhaps you get special treatment because you don't live 20 minutes down the road from the warehouse, like I do.

I don't get why some people whine about Zavvi and their service, packaging, communication, but as soon as a 10% code comes up....

:ordered:

You think 10% which actually is less than 2 GBP can compensate a damaged OOS steelbook? I think chances to get an replacement are less than 10%!

Still have more than 30 pre-orders running, so it is quite likely that if I'm lucky only one of them will be damaged if this will be the future shipping policy.
