I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Previous Zavvi orders had arrived in pretty thin bubble wrap packages (thankfully no damage) but this is a massive improvement. Managed to open it along one side so can definately be used again if your not too ham fisted trying to get to your steels ;)

same happened to me.. 6 digit tracking number sent via mail, but no tracking button on the website and no clues where/how to track.. however it was for international standard delivery so i dont rly expect them to include tracking, but its still confusing

I haven't even had a dispatch email yet :(

And quick question to anyone who can help, how do I use my zavvi reward points? It's probably quite simple, but then again so am I :p

Mine was the same today and its not international. Im based in UK. I get an email from Zavvi and says to track your item click here. But it is not a link and it doesnt work. Big lol.

The packaging is a great improvement but I've seen a number of posts from people with spine slashes (one of my two copies has this). Surely this must be a cheap fix as all it takes is an extra piece of card on the top and bottom of the boxes they arrive in at the warehouse. Book suppliers do it so why can't the same be true for steelbooks?

I just ordered the Con Air steelbook for €11.85 off Zavvi at 12 today and then got a dispatch Email at 5! It usually takes over a week for me to get anything off them. Has anyone outside UK got anything off them recently? Was it any faster? Oh and I also got the non clickable tracking link.

My spine slash is UNDER the shrink so I think that the problem is further up the chain.

Loving the new packaging, not quite as good as Play.com's, but not far off. I'm glad they delivered when it mattered, hopefully this is a start of better things for Zavvi just as it was for Play.com (at least in terms of Steelbooks, not profits).

Anyhow, maybe some would like to reconsider their vote in this thread:

Should Zavvi release all the James Bond films in Steelbook?

I asked Zavvi why customers outside of the EU were charged VAT and didn't hear anything back for about a month.
They finally replied to me today

Hi *****,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your VAT charges.

VAT is chargeable at the point of sale on all goods and services within the European Union and therefore we must charge all customers regardless of their country of residence. We are obliged to collect tax on behalf of the United Kingdom tax authorities as part of the goods we offer.

If you feel that you should not be paying VAT for any goods, you will need to request a reclaim of the VAT from your local tax authority. Should you require any further information we recommend contacting HMRC's National Advice Service on 0845 010 9000. Lines are open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday.

If there is anything else that we can do, then please do not hesitate to get in touch and a member of the team will be happy to help.

Kind regards,
***

It's not that weird. Zavvi's headquarters are in London whereas Base are registered in the Channel Islands and Amazon.co.uk are registered in Luxembourg, both places where VAT is not applicable

So is mine. I have said this a few times before already but steelbooks are mostly getting slashed before the retailers get a hold of them. The majority of slashes I have are under the shrink only.

if it's not applicable why do they charge customers in the EU VAT?

Try this extract
VAT on sales to someone who isn't VAT registered in another EU country

What counts as a sale to another EU country?

If you supply goods to a customer in another EU country who isn't registered for VAT in that country, and you are responsible for delivery - that is, they don't collect them - then this is called a 'distance sale'. The most common examples are mail order or internet sales to private individuals in another EU country.

However, if you transfer your own goods to another EU country - whether to another part of your organisation, or simply to put in storage - this is treated as if you had made a supply in this country and an acquisition in the destination country. You may therefore have to account for UK VAT unless you are also registered for VAT in the EU country to which they are sent - in which case they can be zero-rated assuming all the usual conditions are met. You may also have to account for acquisition VAT in that country, and so have to be registered there.

From this web page. May be of use might not be :)

Or just go here. Good luck
