Current packaging is a cardboard mailer with the steelbook usually wrapped in either a layer of bubble wrap or foam

I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

I tried to reuse the new packaging and I admit it is awful. Unsafe for shipping overseas. Please don't compare this with play.com packaging.

2 of my Monster's Inc 3D order shipped on 01-Mar-2013 is yet to be delivered. Customer service is god-awful.

Loving the new packaging, not quite as good as Play.com's, but not far off. I'm glad they delivered when it mattered, hopefully this is a start of better things for Zavvi just as it was for Play.com (at least in terms of Steelbooks, not profits).

Anyhow, maybe some would like to reconsider their vote in this thread:

Amen to that! Zavvi have turned things around with the packaging

I disagree - it's easily reusable, cheaper to post, fits through a letter box..

Although obviously it's not quite as protective as a Play box, it's still a very good method of shipping steels to us.

I wouldn't ship a Play box overseas blindly.

Looks like you aren't admitting the fact that it is not safe to ship the Zavvi box overseas. I use Play.com packaging most of the times but add a little bit extra protection as I am a bit OCD when it comes to packaging.

I wouldn't ship a Play box overseas blindly.

I just packed 2 x WFRR for a US buddy in a Zavvi box each, then wrapped the boxes in bubble wrap, then put them in another larger sturdy box. That should do the trick for international posting

I'm very fortunate in that I have full use of both my eyes, so didn't have to do any of it blindly

With Play.com packaging, you can simply add some additional stuffing inside the package and wrap both box together and ship as it is. No need to put inside another bigger box but with Zavvi's packaging you got to do more for safe shipping.

I've shipped loads of steels abroad with the original single play.com boxes with added bubblewrap protected though to cover all sides. I never re-used their double steelbook boxes though, horrible things.

I actually preferred to re-use their double boxes. I always thought the single ones left a side of the Steelbook exposed as the foam didn't seem to be big enough. Whereas I could use one of the double boxes, place the Steelbook in the middle and it was completely protected on all sides

those new zavvi boxes look good to me and for me zavvi is heading in the right direction & I love the fact you can use paypal!

If I order something(i'm looking at like 4 titles) that is currently available, will they use a box, the new packaging or use **** packaging that everyone hates?

All mine have come separately so far, so I'd assume that would be the case for you

Bear in mind that if you are ordering new releases you are sure to get the new packaging. If you are ordering any catalogue titles they might be in a different warehouse to the new packaging, so they could come in jiffy bags

yeah. that's what I'm worried about. Jiffy mailers heading overseas.. no way would they arrive safe. Maybe I'll see if a UK buddy will help. The 99pence ship is a bargain tho!

Very impressed with the new steelbook packaging, but also I received my pre-order the friday before release date (NEVER happens normally with Zavvi), and I ordered a box set on the thursday morning and it arrived Saturday morning!!
