What i want to know is why NOT ONE of you Zavviphiles on this site have come out and defended Zavvi in this cynical and downright dispicable piece of marketing!!

Hey guys and girls...if you WANT the 3 Pirates steelbooks NOW please give us £149.97!!!! and you can have 3 s***boxes too!!!!

Come on...one of you at least come on here and defend that practice!!!!...IF YOU DARE!!!!

As someone who has been accused of defending Zavvi in the past, and have actually done so, it's about defending them appropriately.

There has, on many occasions been times when the vitriol towards them has been unfounded and inaccurate. Time and again you hear the cries of 'why have Zavvi chosen such crap artwork?', 'yet again there's damage under the J-card', 'the spine is slashed under the shrinkwrap, what is it with Zavvi's quality control?'. None of these types of issues are Zavvi's fault, and I'll defend them (like I would any retailer) in these situations. Delays too are often beyond their control, and while their pricing can often be ridiculous, it's up to us to decide what something is worth personally.

What I have said, numerous times unfortunately is that they have issues, including (but not limited to)...

Not being able to change shipping addresses or credit card details once an order is placed
Having to take photos of damages
Items being sold out then becoming available again (often at a much higher price)
Steelbooks being posted in brown envelopes
Generic email replies when something goes wrong

What I don't do however, is resort to name calling, swearing and shouting in caps-lock. I'm not picking on you specifically, but this is what so many threads descend into (as shown in the Avengers Assemble thread). Just because Zavvi chooses to act unprofessionally, doesn't mean we should join in.

From the various posts it's clear that many here are not happy with Zavvi and their "customer service" but I don't consider it necessary to bash them for silly reasons such as their recent massive increase in the prices of certain previously "Sold out" steelbooks. We had enough time to order them at the correct prices andif they want to offer them for GBP 50 or whatever price so what - we are not sheep and when they can't sell any at this new price the steelbooks should return to the correct prices. As I posted about "Roger Rabbit" Anniversary edition, when everybody was slagging it off, we don't have to buy the damn thing.
I'm reminded of the old saying "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time" although as far as Zavvi is concerned it appears that they can hardly please anybody any of the time...
I consider all this negativity towards Zavvi unfortunate and unpleasant serving no useful purpose and it might be better if those people closed their wallets and bought their steelbooks from other sources instead of bitching about Zavvi continually.

There is no excuse for Zavvi not to inform their customers of delays in shipping. Poor retail management. I hope HMV gets many more steelbooks will give Zavvi a run for their money like they deserve.

I personally don't see how HMV getting hold of more exclusive steelbooks will be beneficial to the collector unless the tie-in with xtra-vision works out. Before this recent news of xtra-vision/HMV I was hoping that HMV would have no exclusives at all because it's a real pain for many of us to even find a local branch still open and the only people it seemed to be benefitting were the scalpers on eBay - you only have to look at the recent FURY steelbook which was available instore at GBP 17.99 if I remember correctly and which was soon changing hands there at double that figure - clearly because many of us could not get to a branch to buy it at the "right" price. Regarding the tie-in I wait to hear news here of the packaging used for these steelbooks (padded envelopes I hope not!) and if the HMV Exclusive sticker is present and also if all HMV Exclusives will be available from them.

Thats fine if you care about stickers. I could care less as I open mine. And I dont recall any Zavvi steelbooks having a sticker on them

I'm only interested in HMV getting more steelbooks if they appear on the Xtra-Vision website so I can order them.

It's frankly too cost-prohibitive to actually go to a physical HMV store.

I think the 49.99 prices, unless you buy a zbox is an insult to their customers. Customer loyalty hey?
They know people want these titles so will exploit as much cash out of them as possible.
Interesting though the price of the pirates movies is actually more with the zbox than it was to pre order. Nice zavvi, nice.

I've been mulling over how we could respond to Zavvi in regards to their latest insult - i.e. the fifty quid steelbook scenario.

Perhaps if we all ordered five each (that's the limit isn't it?) along with the dreaded Zed box and then promptly cancelled - it would likey screw up their orders department for a while:naughty:  :thumbs:

Yes, what an idea...where there's a fire lets pour petrol on it. Talk about "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

Maybe because it was part of their 2 for GBP 12 promotion and "Sold out"?
Obviously not the steelbook as that was an HMV exclusive.
Hey, if I can push the order button when it is active and send an order through- there is no good reason they should not honor my order. Overselling or selling things you don't have is inexcusable.
And giving me a one month 10% off code saves me d**k in comparison to a £9.99 Ender's Game steel that is selling for 4 times that on eBay.:punch:

I appreciate the first part of your post and all I can imagine is that they miscalculated and the item had already sold out on their 2 for GBP 12 promotion. All is not lost, however, as it is available from other places at similar prices - examples in "New & sealed" condition for between GBP 6.25 and 7.10 on Amazon UK/Amazon marketplace (slipcover unlikely I imagine, though enquiries could be made regarding this) or for GBP 4.99 (4 available) from eBay UK in "Like new" condition with guaranteed lenticular slipcover - item number 391107416939 and there are others there for similar prices though this one appears to be the best offer.
Not sure I understand the second part of your post regarding this title in steelbook form as this is an HMV Exclusive steelbook and thus not available from Zavvi. There are however a few "New & sealed" available from eBay UK for between GBP 17.95 - 2 available, item number 161669874727 - and GBP 25 with one still retaining its HMV Exclusive sticker for GBP 23, if that matters to you. There are also a couple on Amazon marketplace for similar prices though nearer the top end of the range. No idea of p&p to The States though.

For whatever reason- Zavvi was selling the Mondo Cover steelbook. A few members here ordered at the same time I did- and their orders went through.(they already confirmed that they have dispatch) But, yeah, it was the HMV Ender's steel being sold on Zavvi.
For £9.99.

I wouldn't be cutting off anything; nor would anyone else - but it just may make them wake up a little.

Also, in the event that they folded would we miss them? NO - some other company would step into their place - and would most likely delivery a better all round service - it wouldn't be difficult.

What you probably don't understand about Zavvi is that they do not respond to 'reasonable'; nor do they show any appreciation toward their loyal customers.

Whatever you or likeminded people may say, there is no defending the undefendable - nor the untenable; and both of those relate directly to Zavvi's current, self-imposed position.

So in point of fact Zavvi are the ones in the position you describe - not I or anyone who would happily deliver them a short sharp shock.

Well, my newest steel they shipped in a nice rigid box. Even more protected than the old white boxes! So, going from the white box, then the cardboard parcel, and now this. Why is there no consistency to any of this?
(I am FINE with this last box! Super protected!) ...What's with the Zavvi Magazine?!!:LOL:

Whilst I appreciate where you are coming from and accept that there are matters that could be improved upon (I haven't looked through the 244 pages here devoted to Zavvi but from the last few pages I doubt they are complimentary) I cannot go along with your opinion on Zavvi for the following personal reasons:-
I've bought hundreds of Blu-rays and steelbooks from Zavvi over the years and have had very few issues with them regarding these items - in fact the only issues I've had are to do with the returns process for the few steelbooks received damaged and that's more down to my being a bit of a technophobe regarding photographing the damage and downloading the evidence... and that's where the children are useful.
It's true that the returns process is painfully slow when compared to Amazon's for example but is it so much worse than that of other retailers?
Another minor gripe may be that they don't have the facility to carry out a physical check of a Blu-ray being enquired about to let me know if it is still being shipped complete with its original release slipcover (unlike Amazon which does uniquely have this facility).
Another problem was when Zavvi cancelling orders upon expiry of payment cards - this was a major hassle, especially when the items were "Sold out", but I see that this has now thankfully been resolved.
The truth of the matter is that I would struggle to find anything substantial to complain about in regard to Zavvi apart from the above and maybe that is why I don't understand all this venom directed at them.
I wouldn't know if they are in any sort of financial trouble or if that is the reason for the recent hiccup in their normally smooth and efficient dispatch of steelbooks but I trust this will be resolved shortly if it hasn't been already.
The fact remains that they have delivered over 200 steelbooks to my address in the past 2 years before their respective release dates and that is something nothing short of excellent in my opinion.
I defend Zavvi as I would anyone else being persecuted as that's just the way I was brought up. I would hate them to cease trading and wonder which company if any would step up to the plate and take their place for exclusive steelbooks out of the mixed bunch remaining?
I hope not HMV for the reasons described previously and if they came back online I hope that their customer service, which was crap, is improved. I don't know how their tie-in with Xtra-vision is going to work out and I wait to read posts from contributors who have bought the new "Hobbit" HMV Exclusive steelbook from them with regard to the packaging used and the standard of customer service if there are any issues with the items.
I hope not Amazon which despite their excellent customer service HARDLY EVER reduces steelbooks to ANYWHERE NEAR the same level as Zavvi. I can manage without excellent customer service but not without reasonably priced steelbooks as otherwise I could not afford to have half as many as I have.
Regarding Zavvi's excellent steelbook pricing - a recent couple of examples being the "Ender's Game" steelbook (brought to my attention yesterday by our friend from across the pond) and "One Hour Photo" futurepak - both priced at GBP 9.99 at Zavvi - where else would you find these, if you wanted to, at that price? I'm kicking myself at missing the latter at Zavvi as I'd been price-watching this, and other futurepaks, on Amazon for a good while - in the end I bought it from Amazon the other day for GBP 12.76 which is under my price point of GBP 13 for futurepaks but not as satisfactory as buying it from Zavvi for under a tenner!
I hope not the Entertainment Store which really annoyed me not too long ago with their pricing for their exclusive "Anchorman 2" steelbook - GBP 25.99! (and that's apparently with a manufacturing defect on the top of the steelbook) and it's hardly surprising that the stock they couldn't sell at that ridiculous price was given to Zavvi to flog for GBP 12.99...
