I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

I dont agree! I personally feel that this should be discussed in the Zavvi retailer thread not a particular steelbook thread! Not everyone has to say "this looks fantastic! Over 9000 times" and anyone who just keeps saying that is spamming anyway! This is off topic chatter and I have already noted above their is a more specific thread for this sort of Zavvi discussion! There isnt a lot more to be said about this steel until its release and then we get opinions on the steel in hand and pictures!

Sent from my Galaxy S4

In fact, I do think that the Zavvi discussion here HAS to do with this steelbook and therefore on topic. The opinions of other do influence my decision on this one.

What do you want to talk about in this thread then? Or we can stop talking right now, post an unboxing video on release day and close the thread?

Why do you care so much about people sharing their opinions on a forum, which is obviously on-topic, considering it's a Zavvi Exclusive steel and they are using this particular steelbook as an example :wtf:?

Would you rather read: "This looks fantastic!" over 9000 times? Yeah, that would make for a real interesting forum-discussion...:ass:

i have no problem about ppl sharing their opinion at all about the jungle book steelbook
and yes saying that looks fantastic clearly wouldnt make for an interesting topic.. but i do come to the thread hoping to find more steelbook / movie specific information.. inside art details , special feature details , audio deatails ect about the movie

but most of the recent posts above my original one seemed only focused on zavvis business practice which was pointed out way to many times in other threads should belong in the zavvi thread..

i recall hearing that ppl can subscribe to certain threads and when you see the thread is new in bold..perhaps those folks to would also like to know the same info i would..

thats all i meant.. id never complain about an opinion being shared at all
that was not my intention

peace

Zavvi is misleading people. They send an e-mail trying to cause chaos and massive order placements with their ''YOUR LAST CHANCE TO BUY''.

Yeah, sure... Both titles have been back on Zavvi for 2 days.

I highly doubt the print run is 10K. When I asked Wreck if he could confirm this, it was ignored. So I think Zavvi just said it's 10K on their facebook page to please someone.

Why are they misleading people?

Wreck has said multiple times that he cannot reveal the print run, but it seems you ignored that. We don't know how Zavvi's stock system operates. It could be that they thought they had sold out, but had not added cancelled stock back to the allocation (which due to discount codes and a few members throwing hissy fits may have been quite a lot).

I don't know what your problem is with Zavvi but most people aren't stupid and don't need you to keep berating Zavvi in every thread. Every collector can make up their own mind about Zavvi.

What is there something wrong with Zavvi then and me appreciating them ? I thought this site was all about that. Seems like every time I post something positive I get slagged off. I daren't post anything negative here or it runs the risk of offending members or being deleted. I guess I can't win. How about this then I LOVE HDN AND EVERYTHING IT DOES ONE OF THE BEST SITES IF NOT THE BEST SITE FOR STEELBOOKS. I'm fed up with posting positive comments and getting slagged off like oh you must work for Zavvi etc etc this is unfounded, unjustified and complete BS. I don't work at all but seems whatever I do it is wrong. I'm really sorry for getting excited about steelbooks and Zavvi who have the majority of releases these days. Really sorry guys if I have offended in any way at all. Truly sorry for being me.

I personally think its nice to see someone not following the rest of the sheep, we're all different after all ;)

Nothing wrong with giving credit where its due and certainly no problem stating your opinion on the matter :)

There's nothing wrong at all, and you don't need to apologise... It's just that some of us have been in the steelbook game a lot longer, and while Zavvi are doing a great job some of us remember a time when play.com were offering back catologue titles at £9.99 (11.99 at the most)... so when Zavvi release back catolugue titles at £15.99 we can only but scratch our heads a little, I know I do.

e.g. £15.99 for X-Men 2, Daredevil, 28 Days later etc... These films have been out for years, and I can probably pick them up for £3-4 (and I'm being generous there) as an amaray. Just because they're now been released in STEELBOOKS the price is £15.99... That's a huge difference. Especially if you buy several in a wave. For the same price as 2 Zavvi Steelbooks I used to be able to get 3 at play.com... FACT!

Fair point but what's that got to do with parrots. Also just because I only have 30 or so posts on here you are presuming some of you have been collecting longer than me. Well I can tell you I was out there when IM FS came out and beyond so there's no need to assume, presume or diss. FACT. all I do is create a positive not negative buzz and I get ripped to pieces on here. Any way enough of that and back to topic.

Can't wait for all the new and catalogue releases. Love steelbooks and always will. That's with or without Zavvi just in case any of you think I actually work.

Good luck to all members on here and hope you get the ones you want.

Best

Mark

I'm not a Zavvi basher, nor do I work for them.

On the plus side, it's good that they're getting steelbooks in the quantities they are. I doubt anyone else would have picked up the Disney licence and offered us Tron, The Rocketeer, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and so on. Even Fox who love a good steelbook probably wouldn't have bothered with half the titles if it wasn't for Zavvi requesting them.

That said, some of the prices are pretty high. It doesn't effect me too much as I only get films I love, but even then, a couple of quid cheaper per title wouldn't go amiss.

I wouldn't say Iron Man 3 is offering value for money. How much of it is down to Disney, and how much Zavvi I don't know. A combination of the two I imagine. It's a lot to charge for a single disc release, especially when other countries are offering the exact same case with better contents inside. However, that's Disney's choice as to what they put inside it and that's based simply on what they think the customer will accept. By and large they're right. Steelbook buyers will accept poor contents for a nice box in the main.

For that price I'd like to see at the very least a Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy. That's how things used to be (and they were cheaper). Disney in the UK though is the worst at providing value for money. Constantly dropping the DVD, second discs/special features, offering edited versions, screwing up transfers while totally forgetting to drop the price accordingly.

Sadly it's a case of suck it and see. Either vote with your money or accept that this is how it is. I don't think it's a fight we can win. If we vote with our cash, Disney will just go, 'see. we were right, there's no demand for steelbooks'.

Nobody minds Zavvi releasing new steelbooks, the problem is that the combination of multiple simultaneous releases and frankly sky high prices are making it difficult to keep up. Yes, you could simply buy the movies you like, but then maybe you see a steel with nice artwork that normally you wouldn't buy or simply haven't watched before. Suddenly it becomes a very expensive hobby.

In the case of this particular steelbook, the art isn't particularly good, the content is non-existant and the price is extortionate. There's nothing wrong with being positive, but sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade.

yah i figured as much. so what's your other username? :hilarious: :p

it's like you are really a seasoned steelbooker (IM FS?) masquerading as a "wet behind the ears" noob. I mean... you can do what you want... you don't seem to be violating any rules (i don't think) but your posts are not realistic in delivery, and it's pretty easy to notice.

do what you will with that info. maybe your posts dripping with positive is a good thing overall. so carry on if that's how you roll, but no need to get mad at all the people that find your full and unbridled praise for Zavvi a bit one sided.

Fair point but what's that got to do with parrots.

It's because you've made the same statement (saying how happy you are with Zavvi and how good you think they're doing-which you are perfectly entitled to, don't get me wrong) about three or four times now over the last few days. Which is a bit repetitive-like a talking parrot.

And to be honest, your timing couldn't be worse because an awful lot of members are having a torrid time dealing with damaged Steelbooks coming from Zavvi and their embarrassing Customer care and returns processes.

All this on top of the current trend of rising their prices in the last few weeks means Zavvi are slipping down the popularity chart with people at the minute. So a lot of people don't have the same enthusiasm for Zavvi as you do right now.

Quick question: if I have 2/more steels with different release dates on the same order, are they gonna be shipped together, no matter when the last one is released, or does Zavvi ship them separately, as soon as they are released? ?

I quit buying from HMV UK before they went belly up, due to most of the steels I ordered were damaged. I will do the same with Zaavi the first time I get a damaged steel.

I won't put up with it again.

Hopefully you won't have to face this problem with them.I am dealing with it currently but won't bore everyone with the details.Got to say their customer service is an absolute joke.Im beginning to wish someone else had these exclusives.

In my experience with Zavvi regardless of order quantity/release date/time of order etc all orders are shipped separately, bizarrely Ive had orders shipped days after others arrive first, 2 orders shipped at the same time arrive almost a week apart, some arrive on or before the release date, some dont...its very hit and miss

i have had to change my credit card details on my zavvi account because of a new card ......do i need to cancel all my pre orders (as they are under my old number..) ive emailed zavvi but had no reply .... can anyone advise me

You make it sound like it was decades ago lol

I do agree to a point that £16 feels like a lot when compared to Play.coms £11 ...maybe we were just spoiled by Play...I do feel however that Zavvis ridiculously cheap international postage rates are being subsidised by their higher prices, but maybe Play just managed to negotiate better deals and could then offer better prices? Either way I have zero customer loyalty...I go where the price is right (not always the cheapest option but I make a choice based on a number of factors..price, delivery time/packaging, previous experience, customer feedback etc) If Zavvi dont keep an eye on other retailers pricing for the non exclusive steels they could find themselves missing out on a lot of sales.

I remember a time not so long ago (see Im doing it now lol) when we were being bombarded with Play.com steels and struggled to keep up with all the new ones, then when Play ended as a standalone retail outlet and HMV was in its administration troubles we all feared an end to the UK steelbook market, some of us were secretly sighing with relief after a crazy few months ...How wrong we were...if anything its worse now :hilarious:
