I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

You are kidding yourself big time if you think Zavvi are only making 1 to 2 quid a copy per steelbook!

Equally kidding yourself if you think they are a smalltime business.

As for lying that items have gone out of stock - forget it.
The reason items show as out of stock quickly is that there are still lots of greedy idiots who re-sell through ebay, each buying between ten and twenty copies average.

Zavvi don't manually monitor the orders as they go through. However, once sold out, they DO go through them manually, and the remainder come back into stock.

Crikey, I thought I was cynical!
The topline for the entire Hut Group is about 77m pounds. To put that into perspective for you, that's about how much the busiest McDonald's, which is in Moscow, clears in revenue in a year too. So yes, their entire corporation is small-time in the etailer space. Do you realize how incredibly hard it is to make money in e-commerce? Amazon literally has not made a cent in 20 years. In fact, they have billions in accumulated deficit.

You post like a Zavvi rep so this point is probably wasted on you, but it's more than obvious Zavvi sells steelbooks in allotments.

So this title sells out before I can order it, then an email saying bulk orders will be cancelled. (Just how many is a bulk order? Why don't they limit the number of copies someone can buy?) Then I get the usual is this what you're looking? for email with "buy now" link. Yes, I'd like to but currently it is sold out. LOL
So once they cancel the greedy bulk orders then I assume the rest of us can order a copy?

Have I really missed out on a copy!? Arghhhhhh!

Dont worry guys, it will be back in stock. Just keep an eye on the thread and the HDN staff will announce when it will be back in stock.

Missed it (for now).

Very strange this time. Never seen this kind of email from Zavvi. I was at least expecting the "only 500 left" email.

Not exactly. They are selling the cheapo Anchor Bay, Universal and Warner waves from the US :(

They're gonna need to fix up some of those (Region 1) tags they have on a lot of those steels. The Canadian Zodiac and Se7en are region free, for a start.

Also they might want to add a disclaimer (like Amazon) that if you knowingly order a region locked bluray and it doesn't work then no refund for you.

EDIT: Unless of course these are the US Best Buy releases (same art as the Canadian ones I've got), in which case I've no idea if they're locked or not.

Hopefully we'll see a big price crash soon enough! There is one or two I wouldn't mind picking up but not at that price. €10-€12 maybe.

These are poor releases, not on a par with Zavvi's exclusives.

I think this is a really positive thing for Zavvi. It's a smart idea since they aim to be "the home of steelbooks." It shows that they care for their customer base and know the products they're interested in. Keep going in this great direction, Zavvi!

£14.99 for these imports is a joke. You can get all of these for around £10 or more on Amazon/eBay, brand new. I bought a few of the US steelbooks and most sadly have no inside artwork. Would be nice if Zavvi showed some love for digibooks too ;)
