I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Yeah, but zavvi doesn't ship from within EU, but from Guernsey. I was talking specifically for them. Since Guernsey isn't part of the EU you have to pay all the import costs as you would when buying from US or Asia for example, that is if your package gets pulled of course.

And that's correct of course.
(even though on occasion i have had shipment from zavvi from the Netherlands, even if i bought from the UK site)

Yeah, I'v also received some from Germany as well. Usually games though, never movies.

On another note Zavvi using cardboard envelopes again which is worrying as I have now amassed quite a few preorders.
Have they ran out of boxes again?

The last few I received (yesterday and today) were in their steelbook boxes. Might be depending on the title?

This June, Arrow Video will be celebrating its 5 year anniversary with a host of special announcements being made in the coming weeks to commemorate its 5th birthday!

To kick the celebrations off, 6 x specially re-packaged SteelBooks will be released exclusively via Zavvi starting on 23rd June with the release of Maniac Cop and followed by Day of the Dead on the 30th June. Shortly thereafter Arrow Video will release Black Sunday, Inferno, City of the Living Dead and Phenomena as part of this special commemorative SteelBook re-issue.

In one of these Limited Edition SteelBooks, we will place a Golden Ticket, for which one lucky fan will win the entire Arrow Video back-catalogue and all upcoming 2014 titles*.

This will be followed throughout the year with a host of further celebrations including talent-led fan-events, unique merchandise and exciting interactive competitions for fans to take part.

Stay tuned for further announcements and some very exciting content in the coming weeks!

Apologies if this has been addressed somewhere back in the recesses of the thread! My default card on Zavvi (Amex) is running out shortly and I have a replacement, CC number the same but new expiry date. If I update my default payment options will that cover my many preorders (mostly for sold out steelbooks), or will the payment fail on the basis of the details taken when I entered the order?

If payment doesn't go through, what options/window do Zavvi give you to enter a new payment method?

Many thanks for sharing experiences and whatnot!

I bumped into this problem recently. Leave your pre orders as they are, when release date comes Zavvi will send you a failed payment email and request new details. Just make sure you do it quickly.

Don't contact them asking to change your card details, they'll just say they can't and cancel your pre orders.

Quite apart from the very nice prize, I would like Arrow to be a little more lucid in the 'commemorative Steelbook reissue' - does this mean we are going to have a Fulci, Argento and hopefully Bava fest?

Does anyone know the full extent of their licencing of the cataolgue of those three?

Zavvi if you're reading this, I'd love some of those KimChi Exclusives to appear on your site. It'd make my life a hell of a lot easier!

You wont see that Happen Zavvi getting Kimchi not possible

What I would like to see is All the Best Buy Releases and more important FutureShop

Its been mentioned by FutureShop Rep they will discuss this internally at FutureShop to see if something could happen
But don't get your hopes up this happening we have to wait and see but I doubt it will

They wouldn't be able to-the imports Zavvi are selling are probably part of some deal with the bbfc (as all films have to be classified for home or retail use)-& are the same as the UK versions. Most korean films are longer and the extras do not match UK versions-I doubt the staff & Kimchi would want to change how they operate, especially as their titles actually sell out!!!

I think Zavvi get away with selling these US titles because they're based in Guernsey which is not part of the UK and also because they are an online retailer only. If they were selling them through a High Street shop they would undoubtedly incur the wrath of the law since they have not been submitted to the BBFC for classification and do not bear the obligatory ratings symbols.

The older members of this forum will recall the early days of DVD collecting, some 14-15 years ago, when the UK lagged well behind the US in terms of what was available on the 'new' format. A number of budding entrepreneurs tried to fill the gap by importing and reselling what wasn't available locally and found their premises raided by Trading Standards, their stock seized and a hefty fine imposed in the local Magistrate's Court. It was this practice which led to the rise of the Personal Import Service which got round the law by the importer acting merely as an intermediary on your behalf, as opposed to an actual seller of the goods. With the growth of the internet and the expansion of PC ownership, of course, their role became defunct and they went the way of the dodo.

That said, I do hope Zavvi will expand the range of titles available. There are many titles only available as exclusives through retailers who do not ship internationally such as Target and Best Buy in North America or Media Markt in Germany and this is a niche Zavvi could fill. It would certainly help me since I would no longer have to source such titles from Ebay.

I take it the envelopes are for international shipping? I've always got a box for mine.

They sent out to nearly all customers V for Vendetta in a basic cardboard mailer
UK/Ireland and International
I got last week also a different steelbook in a cardboard mailer

I hope its just temporary and they go back to the Boxes
I hope their not cutting costs down and it was that they were just out of stock of the boxes

Even if they ran out of stock of boxes, it's completely a bad practice to ship ultra limited products so haphazardly, for a retailer who prides itself for providing 'unique' products. I can only hope my V arrives in good condition and in a box, but seeing that many UK members are getting dented copies, doesn't make me feel good.

If a retailer is going to sell a very limited product, they should make sure it is packaged better than a cardboard envelope, because there are no options for a replacement. People are then stuck with damaged goods and Zavvi is forced to offer a discount and lose money. Very bad PR and a very bad business move for any retailer, not just Zavvi.
