I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Guess that's our general problem. Despite the fact that company policy, customer service etc. are lousy we all like their steelbooks much too much to give up ordering them completely. Don't think anybody will cancel the Disney / Pixar or Indiana Jones steelbooks once they startet collecting them. Even if the risk of getting them damaged is now considerably bigger.

Yep. I have few on pre-order (all Disney, Army of Darkness, Mulholland Drive and a couple others). Never did get into pixar collecting. So far I have had 2 damaged steelbooks. Captain America (tiny dent) and Gone With The Wind (crushed). I sent them pics and they took care of it right away (refunds). I dread the day when I start having bad luck like you guys are.

We need to update the OP with the current packaging and update the previous packaging.

I got Robin Hood today. It was in the same mailer, but the mailer was sealed differently. Anyone else get this?

One side edge was flat, seemingly giving the it a little more box structure.

You can see the regular edge we've been receiving on top, and the bottom shows the flat "box" side.

I got the exact same packaging.
It did seem a little sturdier than the last one I received.
That super thin white lining for extra protection was a joke though.
A slice of pita bread would have been a better option :hilarious:

Now the Pita bread might just have saved my Die Hard 4.0 - well, not really, as it was bent banana shape in profile.

It had to happen - and dammit ,I now have to go through the rigmarole of sending the sodding thing back!

Bloody rubbish packaging!

Maybe it would help or maybe it would not, but Zavvi should put a "Fragile. Easily Dented. Place nothing on top" sticker on the cardboard mailers.

It seems that the damage I have seen comes from weight being placed on top of the mailers. The mailers never look damaged in any way in the area where the steelbooks are dented.

They couldn't really mark the mailers as you suggest as the weight of the ink or sticker is likely to cause a total collapse!

Basically the packaging is entirely inadequate and not fit for purpose - and I shall make certain they know it when my (newly arrived) damaged steel goes back!

Poor packaging methods. Lousy back-end order interface. Dreadful customer services and returns procedure. None of these compare to the unethical way that Zavvi conduct business on other websites, while neglecting customers on their own site!

I personally find it appalling how a company who have their own website can have products out of stock or apparently sold out on pre-orders, yet can easily be found selling the same products on eBay / PLAY.com / Amazon.co.uk for a marked-up price, plus also charge for P&P! How do they get away with these practices?

How many of you have missed a SteelBook pre-order because a product has apparently sold out within the first 24 hours, and patiently waited for it to come back in stock due to cancellations, only for it to never reappear? It's not because there's no stock - it's because Zavvi would rather sell on eBay or other marketplaces via Zavvi Outlet for an inflated price than put it back up for sale at the original retail price on their own site!

Something else which annoys me is the way Zavvi offer discount codes rather than actually lowering the prices of items on their website. How often have you known a SteelBook pre-order price to drop? Amazon do it all the time, and only ever charge you the lowest price, but Zavvi NEVER do this! Instead they would rather dish out random codes in the hope that the majority of people won't bother using them. Some people may cancel their orders and re-order with the discount code, but Zavvi are sneaky - they often don't work on pre-orders! Those which do work on pre-orders, you can't use because the products they are valid on are already sold out on pre-orders. Crafty!

If Zavvi were a used-car dealership, they'd be the kind of unscrupulous dealer who would deliberately put sugar in your petrol tank, wind back the odometer, and sell you a chop-job!

Zavvi returns procedure

its my first time going through their procedure. do you have to use the printed label they supply, or can you just write the info straight on the box? i dont have a printer and cant be bother to go to the library just to print out a piece of paper.

thanks

Assuming it's a returns label (similar to the sort of thing Amazon provide) I'm pretty sure you'll need to actually print it off.

Does it have any barcodes or postage information on it? If so, you definitely need to.

i received 4 zavvi steels today... one is ok, 3 are damaged (dents on the front)...

the mint one is my 8€ copy of brazil, the damaged ones are 2 copies of maniac cop and 1 copy of alice in wonderland.

zavvi, your new cardboard packaging SUCKS!!!!

+ i just opened my (supposed to be mint) copy of alice in wonderland, and this one had quite a big paint chip on the back cover hidden under the j-card.
4 enquiries to zavvi in half an hour because of damaged steels. pffff.... don't know how long i want to go on with this stupid enquiry-->refund game.

I ordered Ted and Filth, Filth has not come yet, but I received Ted yesterday. It had a big dent on the front. That's my second Zavvi that's damaged, I think it's 2/16. I hope that Filth arrives in mint condition.

I sent them a message and they promised that they would send me a replacement. I received the "Order Despatched" -message today. I hope that the replacement survives the trip without taking damage. At least it's just a quite cheap steelbook and not a OOP steel.

Not one to normally and publicly, slate Zavvi. I do not agree with most of there policies etc but we all agree to them when we order.

However I am now so annoyed with Zavvi they have now just lost over £500.00 of pre-orders of Steelbooks and over £300.00 of software preorders. Why? Well the usual farce that happens when you cancel a preorder.

Cancelled on Monday Pinocchio, a full 7 days before release date! And surprise they could not cancel it in time!!! So asked if when it arrived a can return and have my postage refunded?

There reply
Thank you for contacting us to arrange a return.
I am very sorry, but as the item entered the dispatch process prior to cancellation we cannot offer free return postage.
You will shortly receive another email which contains instructions on how to return your goods.
If you have any further questions then please do not hesitate to get in touch and a member of our team will be happy to help.

They really don't help themselves do they? Would get a refund of postage if item arrives damaged! Lets think about that.

But seriously! Can their system be so antiquated?

If you tell them you don't have a printer they should send you a label. They did this for me it was a while ago but I would ask.

You can write it all down on a piece of paper and sellotape it to the box.

Just make sure you get down the long number they supply as that's the one they need if there's no bar code.

Give em hell.

I told them the steel arrived "Banana shape in profile. This is quiet obviously due to entirely inadequate packaging that is clearly Not Fit For Purpose!"

And went on to ask for the returns authorization.

Not that I think they'll take any notice - but at least I got it off my chest

p.s. The U.S put in a valiant effort the other night in the footie - were Tim Howard a Brit he'd likely get a Knighthood

They actually and for the first time acknowledged my comment on their packaging:

"I will pass your comments regarding packaging to our operations team."

(received Robin Hood with a small dent and asked for partial refund since it's sold out)

Moony

101 Dalmatians came in badly damaged last month. Yesterday Robin Hood came in badly damaged as well. They started with 10% discount and now we are at 50%. Till where should I push the negotiation? I'm collecting them and not opening any of my steels (unless I bought opened copies) but those damaged ones hurting my will to collect steelbooks...

PS: I'm sick of their packaging and they do nothing to change them...
