Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

For the thousandth time, it's just temporary and should be back to normal by the end of the month.

Just received a reply regarding my damaged copy of Rampart and their offer of a £5 e-voucher:

Anyone know how to contact JB HiFi Australia by email? I received a Robin Hood steelbook from them with a large area of paint damage and am hoping to get at least a partial refund

Their 'contact us' page wants a postal code to get anywhere and I don't live in Australia

my replacement 2001 Space Odyssey steelbook from amazon.ca arrived damaged.
anyone know if amazon CA replace damaged replacements??

You may be OK on the 2nd replacement but there'll come a point when they won't and will just offer a refund. My advice would be not to mention it's a 2nd replacement when you complain and let them work it out.

The amount of damaged item complaints they must get, I cannot actually believe at this point that nobody has dealt with the problem at Amazon canada. It's astounding.

ah well.. at least I got a refund

Hello from Amazon.ca.

I'm sorry to hear that your replacement shipment had the same problem.

It seems that there is a widespread problem with "2001 Space Odyssey (SteelBook Edition)". Please understand that, if we send the replacement order for this item it might be the case that you will get the damaged item again, so it is because of this, we are not able to send another replacement.

So, our automated system will not let us to create a replacement for the second time. I hope that you can understand our limitations in this issue.

Well my replacement Total Recall came from HMV yesterday. Pleased to say it arrived in the normal cardboard box and arrived in mint condition :)

I noticed people talking about the Stanley blade scratches on this thread, my Iron Man Blu-Rays were ok, but my Serenity had the scratch on the spine and this is not the first time, so I contacted them on Facebook. If it's happened to your Steelbook(s) you should let them know.

I'm glad somebody has brought this up finally as i thought it was just me being really unlucky , as most of my returns over the past 2 years (40+) have been due to this reason. it has been very annoying when the rest of the steel is mint but the spine has score marks across it. the factory seal wrapping is always fine above but the scores are underneath the seal which leads me to believe it is a defect occuring directly @ SCANAVO. Their machinery seems to be scoring the spines (sometimes the steels fronts and backs also) during the manufacturing process before being sealed. i dont believe it has anything to do with the retailers unpacking @ the warehouses as like i said the scores are underneath the wrapping. it is a problem that needs pointing out to SCANAVO. Another big problem i have noticed over the past 18 months is uncentered spines on the steelbooks, they are always either too low or too high with the serial number on the plastic beneath the metal spine sheet being exposed which shouldn't be visible. this also needs pointing out to SCANAVO as it looks horrible on the shelf next to correctly alligned ones. i hope this gets sorted asap now its out there. Rant over.

not to stray too far off topic ... but just figured I'd say you can take a hair dryer and heat up inside to remove spine easily with a small thin card and then replace back on perfectly aligned fyi. I know that shouldnt have to be the case, but just saying.

ps. I dont think this line mark happens at Scanavo ... I think it happens at the next step in the process. The cases get shipped to another company who does the packaging of putting in discs, shrink wrapping, stickers etc. Thats my guess.

Are you guys talking about the mark that someones BOX cutter(razor blade) hits the spine? I hate that people are not more careful when opening the master carton.

I have a question, few weeks ago I bought this Steelbook sealed, but when I opened it I noticed it has a strange line on the left side of front cover and just right side of the spine.

Here are some pictures of it:

Now is there supposed to be a line like that, or is it just a dent from production or poor preserving? I paid alot of money for this Steelbook and I hate to think if that really is a big ****ing dent there. And that line covers the whole height of the Steelbook, sorry about the crappy photos.
