Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

Well my French Shutter island "mint condition" arrived today.
The front, spine and disc are mint but the back does not seem to agree with this quote!

Ouch, my friend, that is definitely not mint!
hope you can return it...

eBay!!! It is really getting harder to get mint ones from there (even if they state mint for the Steelbook and not only the disc!)... and all the stress with the seller afterwards :-(

Tell me about stress I hate it. :( If you want damaged stuff eBay is the place to be. :(

or order from play.com...

I ordered Blade from ineptvideo (playtrade) needless to say it arrived with a slight dent on the front & a nast one on the back.

Emailed the seller and heard nothing. Escalated via the return process with play & a few days later a full refund. No communication what so ever with from either play or inetvideo. Free, damaged SB I guess.

I have also got totally fed up of late with the amount of so called like new Steelbooks i have received in recent months from various eBay sellers that have turned up damaged and the stress levels involved in getting things put right. I have now almost stopped purchasing them on there but very difficult when sometimes it is the only place to obtain what you are looking for.

eBay aside i have never had such bad luck as i have had with the UK Repo Man Steelbook which i purchased from HMV, i now have the 4TH copy on the way to me as the first 2 arrived dented and the 3rd had a great big scratch down the front cover. Think i will give this one up as a bad job if this one is defected. :(

Picked up The Hurt Locker in HMV Manchester today (can't use gift cards online - grrrr!) so got spanked on the price but at least I could peruse the copies and get a non-dented one... or so I thought.

Got it home, unwrapped it and there's a small dent right on the corner of the front at the top... kind of flattening out the rounded bit of the steel... beautifully hidden by the shrinkwrap seam!!!:angry::angry:

Hopefully they'll be okay about changing it for a fresh and minty mint one! :ohno:

Just a little update on my case...

I was finally able to escalate it last night and received a reply from eBay this morning. They were very understanding and have told me to return the item for a full refund, so obviously eBay agree that the item isn't as described and I was mislead/lied to. However, the seller still refuses to accept this.

Can't wait to see how he describes it if he tries to sell the steelbook again, because he's now saying the casing isn't important, even though he described it as being rare and sought after in his very first message to me. What a joker!

Glad to hear it's getting sorted out, Noodles. Obviously doesn't compensate you for the stress of dealing with it though.

Unfortunately not all sellers on ebay are collectors so they use the same wording they see on genuine listings to make a quick buck at the expense of us perfectionists! Don't see that it will get any better either because we'll all still take the risk if we see the right item listed.

Just make sure the feedback you leave is an adequate warning to other collectors I guess

Let's hope he (the seller) gets his just deserts if he doesn't follow eBay's instructions. Hope everything sorts itself out OK in the end.

Cheers guys. :)

You've got that right, Zoneism! As stupid as it sounds, I've actually lay awake most nights this week fretting about the whole bloody thing lol. I wasn't sure about spending £50 on it in the first place, as it could have gone towards my rent, so the thought of not getting my money back made me feel physically sick.

The seller never did admit that he wasn't a collector, but it was pretty obvious to me that he wasn't, which is probably why he came across as so ignorant all the time. Although, he is signed up to these forums, so he must have had an interest in steelbooks at some point.

But anyway... from now on, I will a take the lack of description on an item as one to avoid. You live and you learn, as they say. And trust me... I will be leaving him very descriptive feedback. ;)

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice/support. It's very much appreciated! :D

Quite right, Noodles! :scat: I don't like leaving -ive feedback unless I feel it's absolutely deserved and it rarely is in my experience, as there are often mitigating circumstances or the seller is willing to put things right.

In this case however, you would be doing people a real service by letting them know exactly what to expect in the event of problems. Sellers like this really need to be flagged up as a warning to others, so I'd have no hesitation in stating the facts publlically.

When I ordered my Harry potter FS set with the case, I found a small ding that wasn't described. Luckily the seller was great and we worked out a deal where he'd pick me up another steelbook and take $15 off the price for me. Love it when sellers are buyer-friendly. Makes all the difference in the world.

received 2 ebay steels today, both are dented

maybe its just my luck but for the last couple of months, 100% of the steels ive bought on ebay have been damaged

Damn and of course it wasn't on the description either I'm assuming. :(
