It's all speculation, my take, if anything...

What if they are ex Play.com managers, who had a relationship in place with the suppliers and, having lost jobs, decided to get back on their feet by using those relationships to set up a company of their own and release exclusive product. Wouldn't be the first time, and nothing wrong with that
