Electronic Arts' reboot of the Medal of Honor series will be out this October, the publisher announced this morning.

The game, set in Afghanistan and with a realistic slant, will be out in the US on October 12. And Europe October 15.

Medal of Honor, the first game in the series to not take place between 1939-1945, looks set to fill a gap in the shooter market left vacant by Modern Warfare 2, when the latter tripped the light fantastic and became a Tom Clancy wet dream. It'll feature sand, terrorists being kicked out of windows, and beards. Magnificent beards.

Seriously? :wtf:

I like the change. A gesture like this, to me, shows that they really do respect the military and their families. I also like the fact that MG Casella stood up for his customers as well. I think it's a definate win for AAFES and for EA.

Nah. It seems lame to cave to me. In EVERY war game you have the good guys and bad guys. In this war game you had the "bad guys" as the Taliban, changing their names to make a select group of people happy is just lame.

I'm positive that the people complaining about the inclusion of the name Taliban were just a small collective, loud mouth piece in context with the larger audience.

It's not like they, the devs, were glorifying them in any way.

Ultimately it doesn't matter, the change has been made and the game will sell whatever it sells. It's not going to keep me from buying it, I just think it's lame.

Compare it to other real life instances...like Columbine for example. Back when it happened, there were some geeks that made a computer game to play online where you play as the guys shooting/killing people. There was a lot of heat over it and they removed it from wherever it was after. Sure, its a smaller scale example, but that's how it is to the military families. Especially if they lost someone in war due to the Taliban.

That being said, I'm still getting the game and I can't wait until the 12th :D

Just preordered this. I'm doing the midnight release at my store so I can price match it and get it for free... lol, worth the 1hr drive there and 1 hr drive back. The 3 hrs i work will pay for the gas.

Given the major outcry against the creative aspects of the upcoming Medal of Honor reboot, Electronic Arts opted to essentially remove the term “Taliban” from the multiplayer segment of the title. As with any controversy, an opposing opinion is present to dispute any change. With gamers calling out EA for giving in to the mainstream objections, the powerhouse publisher went on record to explain why the last-minute change should not matter to future Medal of Honor players.

To prove to gamers that the tweaked Medal of Honor multiplayer is still the same Medal of Honor multiplayer, EA and DICE, developers of the multiplayer portion of the game, have decidedly scheduled a multiplayer-only demo for release next week. According to Jeff Brown from EA:

“The reason we’re posting the multiplayer demo next week is so people can judge for themselves. Does changing one word in the menu screen have any impact on the actual play of the game that takes place in Afghanistan? If they think we shouldn’t have done that, I urge them to play it.”

Also worth noting is that the alleged true-to-live modern warfare experience in the single player portion of the title still features enemy troops that are still regarded as “Taliban”. If you’re still skeptical, check out the multiplayer demo releasing onto the PlayStation Store in due time. Medal of Honor releases in stores on October 12, 2010.

Idk about demos, usually they are REALLY old builds and keep people away from games.

the military banned this game from being played ... thats probably the biggest factor, hopefully they can play this now since the name change ... who knows tho, in single player they couldnt edit it so its not changed.

They said they did it so the Army could sell it.

Soldiers can play it, they just can't buy it inside their bases. I asked my buddy this weekend about that, he is currently serving in the army and lives in base on the border of Cali and Nevada, he said that the army prohibited Gamestops in the bases from selling this game.

Pre-release Medal of Honor demo ruled out

In a short and to-the-point update on the Medal of Honor forums, Bazajaytee – or Barrie Tingle, associate producer at DICE – dropped the cracker; there will be no pre-release demo of Medal of Honor: “Just got confirmation, there will be no Demo before launch of MoH.”

While this is bad news, there’s no saying there won’t be one at all.

Still, in one swift sentence, he literally killed the hope of thousands who still stand undecided on whether or not to get the game; whether or not it will be like Battlefield: Bad Company 2; whether or not it is the fusion of Battlefield and Call of Duty; whether or not it’ll be worth spending their hard-earned cash on.

But the world will never know… unless, of course, you get a move on and participate in the ongoing PC beta. Give it a shot and maybe that will help you out before the game comes out next week.

i know im not getting this, more people are likely going to be playing black ops more then Medal of Honor, so dont feel like buying this just to play it for 3 weeks then for people to move on to black ops

Your twisting my arm not to get! Specially since there wont be a demo. Mostly all my gameplay comes from mp whereever you guys are playing so if more ppl on Black ops ill rather get that. I got a few days to cancell preorder so ill be checking the pc beta feedback.

Damn you! you make me preorder and now cancelling....Bailey is right, i should only get 1 game.....hmmmmm

I really like how this one is aiming to be more realistic/authentic. Black Ops does look good, but I've gotten tired of the arcade feel to simulation shooters.

i haven't looked at any of the trailers for this game lol, but after buying Mag and Red Dead Redemption and for people to stop playing after 1 month, i refuse to buy this game with black ops being so close to being released

I'll play both like i do with BBFC and MW2, i like our 5-6 people groups of BBFC, makes it much easier to get in and out of games unlike MW2, also plays better.
