I already ordered the opp0 bdp 93 for 588 with free shipping. The place I ordered from does the region free mode and they gurantee the region free capabilities for lifeeven after firmware updates. As far as picking a chepear player over the oppo the oppo has won numerous awards and is pretty much the best bluray player on the market when it comes to electronics Idont buy crap for instance my tv is a pioneer elite kuro 50 inch plasma and has the best black levels you will ever see on a tv.

I'm still looking for one myself. I haven't ruled out the Oppo and I am considering it. I do know it's won a lot of awards. It does appear that most of the region codes are for the DVD side of the player and not the Blu-ray. It seems as though the blu-rays are all needing a hardware modification of some type so it's just a matter of sifting through the ones that are available and deciding. Thanks

iwill have the player monday and let you know what i think of it. All this region crap does get confusing iemailed oppo and asked them if the yhad any plans on releasing a region free player and they said no because basically its illegal or something ihad no clue lol.

congratulation.

Oppo 93 is one of the best player out there in my opinion. When you open it up, you'll feel that it's a $5,000 player hehehe. The packaging and design is top notch.

The main reason I got because it has dual hdmi port for my non-3D Pioneer receiver from last year :(. I use one of the hdmi connection to the TV and other one to the receiver.

Also, it acts like a media player...throw whatever files in there and it can play it...(that's a $100 value there).

Anyhow, the player is gonna last you for another 5 years or more until something new comes out....

Now, no more worrying about region free disc....buy away :oohyeah:

I needed another bedroom BD player ... so I bought the insignia in the OP. They now ship refurbs, but I tested it and it was still region free with hack. However, they sent a diff remote this time, and I used my old remote to test because I may have had bad batteries on the new one. So I need to stick some new batteries in and test ... so that people arent ordering and getting some new remote which isnt allowing the hack to process.

Oppo is only following the rules about region player. I'm sure they are not going to block the region free mod out there. Why? Because they had always been one of the best region free DVD player in the past...and they know their business is based on it being able to mod it for region free. They are not dummies....The majority of us buy Oppo is the fact that it's region free via mod. People would go elsewhere if they start to block the region free mod.

I bought the external mod kit from eBay for $50 shipped. It works wonder...just plug it into the USB in the back and it's done. If I need to do firmware update, I just unplug it as it was never there.

Is there a code free 3D blu ray player?? If there is, where can I get one?? I really need one of these so I can play any movie on it regardless or coding.

The oppo bdp 93 plays 3d blurays and all other discs it can be modded to be region free. I ordered one brand new from bombay electronics wit hthe region free mode for 588 with free shipping. You can order from oppo for 500 but it will be region a locked thats why I went with bombay electronics because they do the region free mod to the player. The mod does void the warranty of the player but thats if you order it from oppo themselves. Bombay electronics gurantees all there mod work done to the player and covers it if something should happen.

Finally tested the Seiki BD660 tonight which I bought a few weeks ago...played my X-Men France...very good! ;-)

Got Oppo95 and it's the best thing I've ever bought for my HT (well comes 2nd to my Kuro ;))

These machines are amazing & the best on the market, the Service is top notch too, for those still undecided do yourselves a favour & buy blindly U won't be disappointed ;)

Can someone help me out here and recommend a region free player to me that is cheap. My PS3 will still be running 90% of my bluray collection. I just want to get a region free player for the 2-3 blurays that aren't region free. I could simply just replace those blurays with region free ones, but, with more and more region locked blurays coming into the collection (because of wanting the steelbook it comes in, lol) I would like to be able to play those in the future instead of just replacing all the time.

I will be running the bluray player via hdmi to my sony receiver that connects to my 5.1 surround sound if it matters.

Thanks all.

You just need to read through the last few thread to see what options you have. :hilarious:

See some of them here..

The Insignia Bluray player I got for free at Best Buy can swap regions to play and Bluray and can be set as DVD region free. I was lucky to find out it was just a simple code to enter. (And I've had this player for over 2 years and just found out - to play my French X-men FC SB).

If you want cheap, I recommend the refurb from Best Buy in the OP. If you dont like it, you can always return it either in store or mail back. I have 2 of them now.

oh k. I remember I saw a post from you talking about maybe the remote having changed on newer units possibly affecting the code not to work... did that turn out to be true or is still all good and you just need the old firmware ?

Looks like Bestbuy Canada and Future Shop don't carry this specific model so I guess I would have to buy it online from Best Buy USA. Ill wait till it goes back on sale or something for boxing day hopefully.

Was going to finally buy the Insignia, but it seems like it's sold out now. Anybody have any other suggestions besides the Oppo?

Or would it be cheaper just to buy a players that just plays Region B discs? Like most people I would only be using it for the occasional Region B disc as my PS3 would do most of the heavy lifting in regards to Region A discs.

You might be able to find the Insignia in stores ... I did for my first version.

FYI - I just tested my newer one with different remote that it shipped with this time ... all worked fine, just had bad batteries. Remote hack still works and was actually easier

Thanks, there are a few on ebay at the same price, so I'll just pick one up there. It'll end up being much cheaper than buying a steelbook, then buying a Region A disc as well.
