I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Assuming you are in Berlin as it says, surely you should not be charged taxes when ordering things from the UK as per the EU free trade agreement?

When ordering things from within the EU I certainly don't get charged anything extra.

Zavvi is shipping from the channel islands which are (regarding customs regulations) NOT a part of the EU

---------- Post added at 10:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 PM ----------

Zavvi ship all orders separately
You will have received a separate email notice of each order with expected delivery date

afaik the import SteelBooks are not actually shipped by Zavvi .. I think they´ve teamed up with someone in the US for these and they are doing the shipping
at least that´s what I got from a friend having ordered some that apparently arrived with totally different packaging from the US..

They do charge, since Guernsey is a free trading zone outside the EU. So in theory you have to pay 19% VAT for everything shipped from there. However, this will not be collected if the total value does not exceed 25 € (about 20 GBP)

As most of the steelbooks are 19,99 GBP or cheaper and they are shipped individually, this will apply to almost all of the steels you buy there.

But even if you don't have to pay anything, German customs are very slooooow. It often takes 2-3 or even more extra weeks until the orders get processed. No idea if this will affect the return policy if items get damaged.

As for the poor and virtually non-existent protection during shipping I think we should not accept any partial refunds offered if items get damaged. Either perfect condition or nothing! A 10 or 50% refund doesn't make dents invisible. If Zavvi insists pretending this is the best possible protection, we should insist on best possible condition.

I received a response to my order query. As suspected they have told me the item is out of stock (which I can see now) but queried why it has taken several days to get a response from which I had to initiate. In addition, why was it still showing as available for at least a day after I ordered?:angry:

In addition, the chap mentioned whether I want to wait for the title return or cancel. I don't think I will wait but I also mentioned about being charged already for this. Let see what happens here as the last time they made a cock up and it took two months or so before I saw my money back.

Well I got the following reply the other day:

I am sorry to let you know that there has been a problem in the warehouse which has resulted in your order being stopped prior to dispatch.

I understand this is disappointing and we are sorry. I will investigate further and request for the order to be sent to you as soon as possible. Should there be a problem with dispatching the order, we will arrange for this to be cancelled and for the money to be returned to your account upon confirmation of the cancellation.

I will be in contact shortly to give you an update. Thank you for your patience.

If there is anything else that we can do, then please do not hesitate to get in touch and a member of our team will be happy to help.

However my order is now showing as cancelled yet no follow up email

15 January 2009 the trading name for Zavvi.co.uk and Zavvi entered the process of being liquidated.

2 March 2009 It was relaunched by new owners The Hut Group. The website was renamed Zavvi.com

In April 2014, The Hut Group, topped the Sunday Times Profit Track 100 list of Britain's private companies with the fastest growing profits.

I completely forgot Zavvi shipped from the channel islands, I believe *anything* you buy from them has the import tax pre-paid if you're ordering from within the UK, but when it's not the UK you could indeed be hit by customs charges.

I am extremely angry that Zavvi.com have returned to using flimsy card wallets like they used to before the boxes were introduced! This is the kind of packaging we rallied against, and is NOT adequate packaging for PREMIUM SteelBook releases!

In addition, if multiple items are all being dispatched to the same address at the same time, why doesn't Zavvi consolidate them all in one larger box like Amazon does?

This is how I received this week's forthcoming releases:

You and me too - don't you just love the post office.

What is the word on the packaging?

Does anyone know if we are to be subjected to the card mailers permanently, or is it another glitch in box delivery?

As has been said before - Zavvi surely cannot belive this is suitable packaging, nor that there is likely to be much chance of the bulk of the steels arriving undamaged - or are they so blind to reality that they'll risk this?

I've now cancelled all of my pre-orders, bar Army Of Darkness. I don't trust Zavvi to send the SteelBooks out without receiving damaged goods and I really don't want to give them any more of my money than I need to.

It's really the only way to register our dissatisfaction as consumers.

Every purchase made now is a vote in favour of the new packaging, every cancellation is a strike against it. It's that simple. Because the only thing that would force the money men at Zavvi to rethink is a significant drop in sales.

I'm voting with my wallet and while I may not be able to totally avoid them, I'll be staying away from them as much as possible even if this means spending a few pounds extra somewhere else.

By the looks of things the crappy A1 mailers are here to stay.

An excellent point which, although quite obvious, had not occurred to me before now.

The original reason for the Channel Island based companies (play.com, hmv.com, etc) sending out the items individually, was to keep the value of each consignment below £18, the threshold at which it became liable to the imposition of Import VAT plus the extortionate Royal Mail handling charge.

Since the latter part of 2011, however, all goods from the Channel Islands imported into the UK are liable to UK VAT, irrespective of their value. It is for this reason that Zavvi include VAT at 20% in the retail price for UK customers. The customs declaration states quite clearly that VAT has been pre-paid. There is, therefore, no longer a reason to send out the items individually and they could be consolidated into larger, sturdier boxes affording better protection.

Obviously, the downside for overseas customers, especially in the EU where draconian customs regimes hold sway, is that import duties may be levied but I'm sure many would see this as preferable to receiving damaged goods. Alternatively, there could be an option to retain individual shipments for those prepared to take the risk of them arriving damaged rather than pay the import duties.

Perhaps this should be put to zavvi so it can be considered as part of their ongoing trial into packaging. The trouble is that they don't seem able to listen to their clientele. Also, their apparently antiquated software is probably incapable of dealing with such a change in procedure.
