I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

i got 2 steelbooks shipped out on the same day. 1 arrived a week later. the other arrived 3 weeks later. the later one had german stickers on it. not sure if this one was shipped from a german retailer.
anyway, i contacted zavvi telling them that the later steelbook had a loose disc. they asked me to send photos of proof. but i had no intention of unsealing the steelbook.

I'm learning the hard way about cancelling the bloody Zbox subscription! Only wanted one month (for the Marty hoverboard POP), cancelled (or so I thought) after it had been delivered, and after numerous confirmation of cancellation emails from them have just been delivered The Force box which I really don't want. Have sent them another email about covering the costs of me returning the box - will I just need to message them a JPEG of a photo of the proof of postage?

If it's a single-disc steelbook, a loose disc inside a sealed steelbook can almost always be fixed back into place.

I've fixed more than 50 loose discs this way, with only one failure where the disc didn't stay on the hub, no matter what.

The first time can be a bit nerve-wracking; you sometimes need to press really hard (depending on the construction of the hub), but the steelbook won't deform. It may be a good idea to practice first with an open, cheap steelbook that you won't worry about.

I had to write to Zavvi every single day despite them fobbing me off to the point that most of my emails just said CANCEL copy and pasted a hundred times spamming them.

It took almost a month but they did in fact eventually cancel. Keep at them.



On another note I just requested cancelation on The Dark Knight trilogy box set within 2 minutes of ordering. About 1 minute after requesting cancelation the status changed from awaiting stock pick, to awaiting dispatch and then i got a failed cancelation email. So it seems Zavvi only cancel pre-orders at least a couple of weeks in advance everything else seems to just fail.

I actually do want the box set, it's a good price. I hate Zavvi lol

my last order from zavvi (You're Next Blu-ray steelbook) came damaged so i took pictures and emailed them, it took 3 days to respond and i was offered a 10% discount which i refused and i asked kindly for a replacement ... two days later i got a reply that they couldn't sent me a replacement because the steelbook is soldout despite it is still on sale on their website ...

Unbelievable, my last order of 2015 is a Zavvi one. Got used to ignore most of their releases due to their customer service, but while many friends of mine already had to complain because of damaged steelbooks, for more than 30 orders now I've been lucky. Guess I'm just ordering until it's my turn, but till then...

Ordered some steels because of reasonable christmas sale prices. Don't care that much about the packaging, but the movies I don't own yet. Ordered The Graduate, Corspe Bride (for my GF) and White Men Can't Jump.

I really think it's time for Zavvi to step down from selling steelbooks. I'm sick and tired of every release being such a disappointment. Even when they choose a decent film they go with terrible art choices or cheap, dull, horrible finish. And yes I know they don't actually design them, but it's up to them to say if the product isn't good enough. Things are so bad now that they're even struggling to sell Marvel steels - just 18 months ago these would be a guaranteed sell out within hours.

The latest debacle is the hilariously cringe-worthy Tarantino "event" where it turns out that Tarantino himself wasn't even remotely involved and, as far as I know, he's never even heard of Zavvi - nor has any of the related fan sites that Zavvi desperately tried to contact like an excitable young fanboy after too much fizzy pop. And then the big reveal is a.......... re-release of Kill Bill - and not even the re-release everyone wanted (The Whole Bloody Affair). Just embarrassing .

Seriously Zavvi, you're a massive laughing stock and you should probably just step down and leave steelbook sales to other retailers that have some degree of taste and / or common sense. I can only assume that there's some sort of David Brent character in charge of the steelbook side of things. It would certainly explain a lot...

The problem with those specific marvel ones and why they haven't sold out is the fact they are re-releases. Everyone bought the originals or other versions so to do them all again particularly fairly recent ones like Guardians of the Galaxy was silly. Also the prices when so many people do already own them at like £25 is far too much.

They need to stop doing lazy cash ins like these latest kill bills and do some that haven't been released in steelbook already.

Just got the email from zavvi for this release, but of more interest was the bit at the bottom of the email about 20% of select steelbooks with this release, saw a picture of the Under The Skin steelbook , and clicked through and there it was, last on the list, and of course 'SOLD OUT', sodding zavvi and their clickbait.....

Just seen that too and the fact that they added "Under the Skin" to the list is beneath contempt as it's been well and truly sold out for ages. . . and it was priced at GBP 24.99. As far as I can remember that was the only price it could be bought for.
Like yourself I can see no good reason to add it to the "Offers" list . . . UNLESS they've ordered another bunch and the "Sold out" status is going to change to a "Pre-order now" status any day now ???
It wouldn't be the first time they've done that too . . .
Interesting that one I originally passed on for being too dear @GBP 19.99 ("The Imitation Game") - which was showing as "Sold out" for ages - has just come back at the more sensible price of GBP 12.99 but am now not entirely convinced and may wait a while longer.

To counter those grumbling about this/these film/s getting another steelbook/s it should be remembered that this is the VERY FIRST U.K. standalone "Kill Bill" steelbook release (ditto Vol.1) and the fact remains that there have been MANY other U.K. steelbook titles that have had the same or more releases/re-releases and glancing along my shelves please find below other examples released TWICE OR MORE in steelbooks:-
- Several Marvel titles (with "Thor" and "Captain America" having had three releases each. . . so far).
- "Star Wars" had the two 3 BD sets and now the standalones.
- Two for "Skyfall"
- Two for "Terminator 2" though the least said about last year's edition with its blank spine the better.
- Two for "Scott Pilgrim"
- Two for "Sweeney Todd"
- Two for "Metropolis"
- Two for "District 9"
- Two for "Fight Club" (though one is a futurepak).

When all's said and done I love metal packaging and I'll miss them when production ceases.

I can see this post going the wrong way (which I don't mean it to) but I always assumed and because it's mostly snoo who posts them that he has contacts but I'm probably wrong but I've also thought that since I joined the site.

No i mean when you find out about new releases because sometimes you start the threads and like @Noodles said how do find out about them before they have a listing on the pre order page? Because when they are sold out they don't show on the search and are not on pre order page as sold out until a day before pre order or even sometimes on the day.

I find out about all new steels through HDN but I didnt mean like that
