I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

Anyone know how to track the status of your order? Placed an order for two steelbooks last week and only got a buying invoice. Nothing else. There's no tracking number, order number, etc. Nothing on their website either when I log into my account. Am I missing something?
I take it you've checked:
Code:
https://www.zavvi.com/zavvi/accountOrderHistory.secure
After logging in?

Nothing under Outstanding/Previous orders listed? If not I'd get in touch with Zavvi support because it sounds like something went wrong with your order.

There's nothing under outstanding orders but under order history it says they've been dispatched. There's no way to track them though? Can't recall the last time l ordered something online and wasn't able to track it.

You will have to contact Zavvi with their useless online messaging service and you'll get a bunch of random form email and some time in the next week they will tell you it's lost.

( not that I've had this happen recently)

Did you pay for "International Tracked" delivery? If not, there wouldn't be a way to track it. "International Standard" theoretically arrives in the USA in 5-7 working days (after dispatch) according to this page:

Even when you're purchasing from the UK the vast majority of the time there's no way to track orders.

well, i had 8 steels incoming yesterday and today from zavvi in these crappy A1 mailers, 7 seem to be ok, only 1 obviously damaged...

I'm a little surprised people are still buying as avidly as ever from Zavvi when we know their packaging is leaving so many items damaged. I would have thought an embargo would be preferable, pending some resolution to the whole packaging issue. Then again, I suppose they do know how to quickly hook people in with flash sales etc.

Personally, I've been through my pre-orders and cancelled 70% of them. I'm just trialling it...

I've kept my pre-orders for now but I managed to hold off on the flash sale items. The prices weren't even that good anyway, most will probably be even cheaper in the coming months and hopefully the packaging issue will be sorted by then too.

Same here although I've cancelled most of my non-Disney preorders. The 10% bribe didn't tempt me to order anything new

Guess if it comes to shipping KimchiDVD sets new standards. The Pianist Lenticular version arrived today in a cardboard box big enough for at least 5 steels and wrapped in 6 layers of bubble wrap!!! Now beat that, Zavvi!

I spent almost two weeks arguing about my damaged one. Best they could offer was 20% refund. It is their shocking packaging. There literally must have been at least 30% of these damaged.

*sigh* This kind of limited release is the worst. It's even more so because Zavvi is awful at customer service/returns even when they are the one who is at fault for using an almost paper-thin cardboard envelope.

I find the funniest bit when they have sent you in such terrible packaging they tell you package the return in a box securely. I dont think so back it goes in what you sent it to me in.

I've gotta be honest here, I have never had any issues with Zavvi returns; I send them a message with a picture, telling them if I want a return or refund and they ALWAYS come back quickly with what I've requested.

Is it just me?

Yes, VERY MUCH SO just you! I've had one instance that went very smoothly. Right now, I'm contesting a copy of Cabin in the woods that came bent at a 45 degree angle. It would make a good doorstop, but is far from being useful as anything else, much less a steelbook. Like Flash said, I've been asked to return it in sturdy packaging and been told that I'm responsible for any damage done during shipping. They also told me to use a shipping method that costs no more than 15% of the item, which is absolutely impossible from the states.

@Flash - I believe there was a bit in the return instructions about them not being willing to take it back if it's in its original packaging. I could be wrong, or may have misinterpreted the instruction, but that's what I understood. Just a head's up!

Well, I'm still unhappy about how V for Vendetta was shipped but I wanted to be fair in sharing that Zavvi's customer service did at least make the situation more palatable.

I'm lucky in that both my copies didn't have major deal breaker damage (more scratches than I'd consider acceptable on one and some extra dents in addition to a similar amount of scratches on the other), the main problem spots were scratches on both spines that are quite noticeable and the choice between keeping one with a small dent or a rather deep scratch on the front cover. Considering the damage, their fault in it, and their inability to send a replacement I decided a steep partial refund on one and a full refund (and return) on the other was fair. After deciding what I was keeping and what would be sent back, I contacted Zavvi on the 7th and braced myself for a frustrating back and forth.

It actually wasn't that bad. It wasn't on par with retailers that I'd consider to have fantastic customer service but considering the horror stories and my own past experience with them, this wasn't what I'd describe as terrible. I had a reply every 12 hours or so, nobody was protesting what I'd asked for, and once we'd come to an agreement my refund was processed quickly and landed on my card this morning.

The main issue with Zavvi was their repeated requests for pictures despite already being provided them - I had to send the same batch of pictures (10 different images showing each scratch/dent) three times after three different support reps replied asked for them before everything was wrapped up. I'm unsure if this is a fault with Zavvi's messaging system or with the reps but even as someone that used to work in the customer service department of an online retailer (and thus more inclined to be sympathetic towards the reps due to being aware of how hamstrung they are), that was pretty frustrating.

The end result ended up being a 50% refund on one steel and a full refund on the other, without being asked to send one back. I'm mollified by that but I really hope Zavvi rethinks this new packaging. I may have gotten two lightly damaged steels for cheap but I would have been more than happy to pay full price + a more reasonable international shipping fee if it meant better packaging and getting them without this kind of preventable damage.

Did anyone else get a free football with their orders?

I re-ordered all the steelbooks that were available to pre-order into multiple orders. I've definitely got one free football. When I went to re-arrange the orders to get three instead of two, the offer didn't come up. I did cancel my other order with the free football, but looking at it, all the items were cancelled but the football wasn't for some reason. That order is effectively a nil value, although they may still cancel it

So I've got one football coming, possibly two, but not a third. I also saved a lot of money by redoing my orders, although it did mean going through my account and cancelling any duplicate orders
