I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

That actually makes me feel a lot better. I've ordered I think one of every steelbook they've sold save for 3 or 4 and hadn't had any issues up until now.

I am no longer going to purchase from Zavvi.

I ordered the complete Friends boxset from them and it was sent in a single layer cardboard box with no padding whatsoever.

Is how it arrived. Now I have the hassle of getting a replacement and getting postage costs out of them (will be £7+ easily due to weight).

Never again, all pre-orders cancelled.

What a shame. EEK!

One would think that adequate packaging would be cheaper than constantly
having to replace damaged items.

I knew as soon as I saw it on my desk at work it would be damaged. The box was tiny so obviously had no padding. As you say a bit of extra cost on packing materials at the start would actually be cheaper in the long run.

I totally understand you. My posts previously in this thread are similar. I ordered 3 box sets, each weighing 2kg. They were sent individually and NO CARDBOARD whatsoever. (ToAustralia) All 3 damaged. They offered 10% off but when they were told how much the return would be they upped it to around 30%. I agreed reluctantly and quit Zavvi for good. It took nearly2 weeks and further emails before I was paid.

For you, go through their returns process and keep at them. When they fail to respond, go through their twitter and Facebook pages, which is where I received contact.

Exactly this. I have never understood this. I mean, as a business model, keeping costs as low as possible is smart, and cutting corners is fine if it works for both parties, however some of these places seem to be cutting OFF the corners!

I had this exact same issue with an Amazon Marketplace storefront seller from the UK. They shipped a steel to Japan in a single walled cardboard mailer. Obviously, it arrived smashed.
They offered to send a new one once they received the original, so I made a point of packaging it properly in a box and shipping it with a note that reusing the packaging was A-OK with me. They obviously read the note as they responded via email that they will only use their own packaging and that they had shipped a replacement. I just assumed it was sent in a box... Nope! same packaging as before and actually even more smashed. Upon contacting them again she said, and I quote, "We do not have access to shipping boxes". :dunno:

Anyway, I went ahead and shipped back the second one at their cost as well and they gave me a full refund.
They saved maybe $2 on packaging and maybe $1 on postage to me.
They covered $14 in postage back to them and now have two badly damaged pieces of product that are no longer able to be sold.
I received a full refund and they probably spent at least an hour dealing with me multiple times.
OVERALL LOSS = Approximately $100 on a single steelbook they had originally listed at $22 :hilarious:

Sorry for the ramble... To get this back to Zavvi though, I was receiving almost nothing but damaged steels a few months back, but am now on a run of 16 undamaged steels in a row, so I am quite happy for now!

I'm still waiting on my refund I think it's been 3 weeks now. I guess they forgot.

You need to contact them - try facebook

they did the same to me. After telling me they would transfer my partial refund and email me, i then waited another 10 days and no refund and no email. so I contacted them again.

Well, they finally replied that they are sending a replacement for one of the damage steelbooks, but still nothing on the other one. I feel like at least half of the problem is they can't decide whether they want to communicate via e-mail or their websites messaging system. I am getting about a 50/50 split over the same issue.

And I've just had to replace 3 steels in a row at Amazon.uk. One was missing from the box, one was dented while the box was fine, and the last was dented because the box was flimsy and got pushed in. All boxes were the Amazon "Frustration-Free" SteelBook boxes

So dents and crappy packaging can happen at any retailer :D

They seriously need to drop these Matte SteelBoooks, or put it another way, we need to stop buying them. Maybe then they will learn.

Wreck, do we have a particular reason why the majority of Steelbooks being released at the moment are matte? Is it a time saving issue or a money saving issue? TIA

+1 but does Zavvi have the power to control Studio policies?

For example, Paramount has gone backwards by sticking with matte finish. Disney seem to be inconsistent. No title, so-so finish, repetitive artwork, thin or no embossing seem to be a norm nowdays.

Same with other Studios like Warner who seem to release 1 glossy Steelbook out of 20.

Wreck says there is a very specific reason, i'm sure he'll reveal it as soon as he is able to.

He doesn't need to reveal it, its obvious , its a cost thing.... matte must be a lot cheaper to produce than glossy, giving everyone better margins

How much cheaper? It must be pennies if anything at all. Why would distributors produce Steelbooks with matte finishes which are almost always criticised by the majority here if they were trying to increase profit? Surely by now they would have realised that a glossy finish is worth any extra cost due to the extra sales they will get. Unless of course there is another issue that isn't related to cost.

The more I think about it and the more I have to interact with them over getting my second movie replaced, the more I find their 20% off dance insulting. Can anyone in the UK comment on whether this is a cultural thing or if Zavvi are just failing hard at customer service?

On another note, what's up with Paypal never working as a payment option? Is it because I am international or it's a pre-order or something?
