I now have confirmation that I can announce ... for all those worried about future packaging from Zavvi. My Play contact has been working with zavvi as well on this mission for better packaging. Between the 3 of us and the future comments from this community after its in place I'm sure it will be go over well.

I have now cancelled all my Zavvi preorders. What they are doing with the prices is a real punch in the face for regular customers. High prices on preorders which drop very soon (some within a couple of weeks) after release? Come on Zavvi, you should know better than that...

I have done exactly the same thing except the ones that have sold out. You say the prices were reduced with a couple of weeks but the truth is some were reduced within a couple of days in fact some members had not even received their copies by the time prices were chopped.

It makes real sense to cancel all pre orders in light of how prices have been falling in order to boost sales. If one does sell out and I miss it then so be it. Can always pick one up later as a last resort.

Very sorry, but not surprised to hear about your tales of woe Ricster & Harry.

I'm aware I'm preaching to the converted here, but I've also now cancelled every non Disney pre-order with Zavvi.

I would have normally been able to help you out Harry, as I used to order 2 of every Disney, to double my chances of getting a mint copy. But that plan recently got shelved, after I lost the will to live, trying to get a refund for a surplus copy of The Jungle Book. It took me 3 attempts, before they stopped sending me a replacement and finally gave me a refund. Never doubling up on orders again, it's just not worth the hassle.

Well after i contact zavvi about the wrong item ( xbox360 game) they send instead of Despicable me 2 steelbooks , they told me that because my address is P.o.box, they have cancel all my other preorder copies

After so many months, so many orders, they decided NOW that they do not deliver at a P.O.Box address.

So thanks to Zavvi, i lost the steelbooks and i can not preoroder them because they are SOLD OUT.

WELL DONE ZAVVI

OMG! EEK!

Wow! Just when you think they couldn't get anymore incompetent.

Unbelievable. It beggars belief. It really does :(

I just received my Monsters University steelbook from zavvi and its bent.

Reading the stuff here, am I screwed? Will they do a replacement? I'm in the states. Or will I get the worthless £3 credit...

Should have went for another version I guess

Sent them a support ticket explaining your issue. They'll probably request you to send pictures of the damage, then depending on who handles your case, either arrange for a return, refund, partial refund or replacement. Some members have said you can try rejecting the partial refund and see what they offer in return. £3 for a bent steelbook just doesn't cut it imo.

Zavvi's pricing policies are just silly. I ordered Dick Tracy for £10.99 on Saturday and it subsequently dropped to £7.99 on Sunday. I messaged them and asked them for the difference, of course they refused. I even pointed out that I could return the original item for a refund and order a new copy at the new price which would mean they would effectively pay two lots of postage for just one sale. They said 'okay' and sent me a returns authorisation.

I was going to order a few more of their sub-£10 titles (The Game, Reservoir Dogs etc.), but I don't think I will bother. I'll wait until they drop even further. :)

We can't blame Zavvi cs for all this crap. Apparently it's company policy to screw people over.

FYI regarding that infamous price drop om 13 Assasisn/Zatoitchi

"Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch about prices.

I'm glads to hear of your loyalty with us, unfortunately it is not within our policy to offer a price match offer.

I'm really sorry for any disappointment."

I guess their policies rely on the laziness of customers, otherwise they would be out of pocket every time this kind of thing occurs. Maybe if everyone who ordered any of the titles that dropped in price returned them (as they are free to do so within seven working days of receiving the item under Distance Selling Regulations), it would force a change of policy.

That's a pretty short sighted view. If everybody cancelled all of their pre-orders then who knows what could happen. Zavvi could change their pricing policy or they could stop producing Steelbooks if they are no longer profitable enough. As someone who would like to see this hobby last a while longer, it is a slightly worrying situation at least in terms of the UK market, especially with the Sainsbury's announcement not too long ago.

Agreed, but charging around £14.99 for standard catalogue titles was always going to be a problem for Zavvi (or any other retailer). It's just too much, as people don't want to pay more than a tenner for them. If Zavvi are not able to change their pricing, then you're right, they'll have to start being very selective with the titles they choose.

I'd kinda like a return to how it was a few years ago before Zavvi got involved. You know, the days of cool looking, reasonably priced steelbooks available on time, in store, on release day.
I truly miss the days of walking into HMV on release day and seeing classics like Captain America, Thor, The Green Hornet, True Grit etc on the shelf...no hype, no outrageous prices, no misleading mock-up pictures that look nothing like the finished product...
Steelbook collecting has gone down the toilet since Zavvi got involved...and their customer service and price gouging practices are a disgrace.
Just my 2 cents

Got my copy of Place Beyond the Pines...in good condition thankfully.
Although it was shrinkwrapped as if it was a return by customer. No dents on the steely however.

Most of the titles you mention were £19.99 which is a bit on the high side for 2D titles. Anyway, I personally think it went down hill when Play.com got involved. It was then that distributors, retailers, resellers etc. started to realise that there was a lot of money to be made.

Play.com started the back catalogue releases but atleast they got it right good variety of steels, embossed, debossed, glossy, matte and prices of £10.99 and £11.99. I only buy the zavvi steels becauae usually i dont have the film on blu-ray anyway but stuff like their disney and pixar steels which i wouldnt mind buying but are just too expensive in my opinion.

Is anybody else waiting for a slew of Zavvi dispatch notices? They were really late on Only God Forgives, so much so that they had to change the release date.

I want my stuff :(

Well, I got a no from Zavvi for a refund on 13 Assassins/Zatoichi. I've tried several times (just to see what happens, with Zavvi I've come to expect nada). This response was priceless:

"Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch.
I have just checked the price on our website and it is currently £14.99.

You also paid £14.99.

I am sorry, we are unable to refund any difference in prices on pre orders after they have been despatched.

If there is anything else that we can do, then please do not hesitate to get in touch and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Kind regards,
******"

The problem with Zavvi is that they treat every message separately. If you try and have a conversation like you might with Amazon, you just get the same stupid auto-response as the previous time.

Bought a bunch of Zavvi steels recently when they dropped in price (apologies to all those that got stung) and they sent all of them out at the same time.

They all turned up yesterday and one had just been slung in a jiffy mailer. Luckily it was undamaged but I hope Zavvi aren't running out of the (slightly) better cardboard mailers in the run up to Xmas.
