Zavvi knock arond 33% to 50% or more off most of there steelbooks soon after release, im surprised that anyone would be surprised this has happened again. I cancel all my pre orders from zavvi a week before release if they havent sold out already, and even then they always come back in stock anyway. I canceled this release as itwas almost certain zavvi would slash the price like they always do.

How about the black friday sales at Amazon.com? Loads of newly released titles at 50~70% of the original list price. No one seems to crib about it. It looks like Zavvi is trying to make space in their warehouses and wants to get rid off these as they released too many of them this year.

Zavvi have released 73 exclusives this year and only 6 have sold out. You can only imagine what their warehouse looks like.

The Black Friday sales happen once a year - this seems to be happening with Zavvi every single week. I mean the 13 Assassins and Zatoichi steels had literally only just arrived for those that pre-ordered them and the price was slashed by £2 on each. A few days later they went down by another £2 each.

It's a bizarre and faintly maddening system. Makes me glad I cancelled most of my pre-orders but even then I still got stung by the Nightmare Before Xmas (kept that as I thought it would sell well in the festive period and they wouldn't drop the price on animated stuff that quick. I was wrong).

Though I have to say that I have picked up some bargains this way, so I'm not too unhappy.

50% of my Amazon pre-orders have dropped in price the day after the release. Sometimes Amazon automatically refunds the price drop and sometimes they don't. Aformentioned, to me, it looks like Zavvi's Warehouses are getting full and they are trying to get rid off the Steelbooks that didn't sell well as quickly as possible to make room for 2014 releases.

You do have to wonder how much truth there is in the " last couple of hundred left " emails we get. Available for many months after. Even the acclaimed Taxi Driver that was announced as almost sold out is still available.

Perhaps a solution is not to release that many steelbooks in the future :dunno:

Seems someone in management hasn't realised that too many steelbooks is not a recipe for success. It is mind boggling how many steelbooks they announced this yr and considering they didn't have a full yr EEK!

Exactly. Zavvi is simply SCAMMING buyers. You can't possibly justify their marketing strategy. They don't even have one, except if LYING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS is part of it... Because that's what they do.

Remember Jungle Book? They send ''only 1000 remaining'' when it was not even released yet, like 3-4 MONTHS ago, and it's still on their website and their outlets!!!

I'm starting to wonder if it's even worthwhile keeping my Pain & Gain and Indiana Jones preorders at this stage.

Are these really sold out also or will there be a pile of extra copies 'found' around release time! :(

"nightmare before christmas down to £9.99"

That was the last straw!!! Mine haven´t even arrived yet and they drop the price!!!!!!!! And this was not the first time. F*** you Zavvi!!!!!!!!! you just lost a customer.

Those Guys at Zavvi will not change their strategy IMO- and if you don`t buy their steels, someone else will for sure. They`ll keep on doing it this way and that`s another reason for me not buying from them anymore:thumbs:

I've already stopped buying from Zavvi. Too much false information was passed on from them for me to take. Where I do business, if I'm given misleading info, then I know longer deal with that company.

My question is this, why do HDN still pass on information given to them from Zavvi when so much has been misleading previously?

The obvious answer is because Zavvi generate a lot of revenue for this site with sponsored links and things like that, Zavvi will obviously like something in return. Which misleading information are you referring to by the way?

Regardless of financial reward, propriety is everything in my book.

How many times have we read "only a few hundred remaining", for months later an endless supply to be seemingly available (even at a discounted price)?

How many times have we seen a steelbook go OOS shortly before release to stop people cancelling, only to then reappear in a seemingly unlimited supply shortly after release?

How many times have people been refused an exchange on a damaged steel because it's gone OOS, only to then see the same steel reappear on one of their outlets at a higher price?

How many times have people pre-ordered, only for the price to drop within weeks/days of release?

I could go on, but I'm sure some on here have there own motives to justify why I'm being unfair on Zavvi. Unfair or not, they no longer get a penny from me anymore.

I think that's a result of people constantly changing their orders and the fact that Zavvi's website and systems are pretty rubbish. Of course we know that Zavvi increased the numbers of The Jungle Book and The Little Mermaid, so that explains those. Admittedly the way they handled those two was bad.

Not too many times recently and in previous instances I think the above point applies. It's probably the number of Steelbooks being released that causes this. Collectors have to prioritise and that means a lot of cancellations a few days before release.

I haven't noticed this kind of thing since Aladdin. I think everything else has been sold through their website again as far as I know.

That does happen a lot, but I think Zavvi have the option to do that if they wish. I cancelled the vast majority of my pre-orders, so this isn't an issue for me anymore. Sometimes people just have to accept some things as fact and try and work around them.

I think it's great that you've stopped buying from them. If only more collectors did that instead of continuing to use them and then continuing to moan about them. I know that if my experience with any retailer was bad enough for me to complain as much as some members on this forum, I wouldn't bother with that retailer again.

I haven't had any bad experiences with them, but I don't think I want to order any of their "exclusives" anymore. They are over-saturating the market with steels for every random film....like, for There Will Be Blood? It just doesn't *feel* like a steelbook title. Just wish it could go back to being a bit more exclusive....not so many titles a week or month....sort of like MoC does with theirs...they'll go months without having a title released in a steel. That's why i'll collect all of the ones they release....and Arrow as well!
