*PLEASE NOTE: This list is a 'guide' only and compiled based on a variety of factors including community 'feedback' and 'suggestions'. Steelbook collecting is HIGHLY SPECULATIVE, and different collectors have different ideas of 'rarity', 'limited', 'sought after', and related terms-all of which may change at the drop of a hat with re-releases, or new info.

Please visit the Steelbook forum, if you have more detailed questions regarding specific titles, and their 'current' status, as this list is 'dynamic' and changes over time. *

I posted this in another forum before but I prefer this one, so I try again here. This is an ongoing list that combines a variety of factors that may contribute to the scarcity or rarity of these Steelbooks.-Sirjump

We started off with a "ranked" list, but as many folks may rank items differently, a general "resource" list of harder to find Steelbooks/Rare titles helps the community more. Feel free to comment so we can consider adding or subtract. -Digitalbabe

:scat:Keep sharing your thoughts & together we can help the list evolve!:)

Possible criteria as to what makes a steelbook rare/hard to find:

* General interest in movie
* Availability at retailer & exclusivity
* Print run
* Country of origin & region code
* Steelcase design
* (Initial) price
* Individually numbered items
* Print Errors
* Hype
* Price on 3rd party marketplaces

There are only 2 Sealed Sucker Punch 1st run on Ebay for 50 Euros>>.

Karl can you pls find one for me for 25 Euro Sealed and Mint?! Thank you very much for your help :)

Shouldn't Avatar Korea 3 Disc with booklet be on the list or maybe its not very sought after or any other Editions Japan etc. Only the AU Tin is on this list but no steelbooks?!

Hi Karl, I understand where you are coming from. As a collector for several years myself, I can appreciate a 'separation' between the 'most rare' Steels, and others that are just a little harder to find.

As mentioned in the title of this thread, the list includes both. We started with a 'ranked' list, but it doesn't work well because it's constantly changing, and different collectors have different 'reasons' for thinking of items as 'rare'. So we included them all.

This list is 'broad' as already mentioned, and provides a 'guideline' only. Our forum is where detailed questions can be asked regarding different versions. And hopefully some of our members such as the staff and members like you who have been around for a bit, will assist new Steelbook collectors, in seeking answers to more detailed questions. I've added a quick reminder note to that effect in the OP.

Thanks all, as always, for your feedback and suggestions!

Sucker Punch Germany 1st release added.

Thanks for posting this. This is actually a tough one to find on ebay right now. Especially with the new ones that came out with the Printed on FSK logo.

I do however, understand what Karl is saying. It's not really 'rare' per se, but it is becoming pricey and is becoming tougher to find. Seems like people are holding on to these right now for some reason. I had to pay $63 on ebay for one of these that I just recently received. That seems like a lot for a Sucker Punch. But, I needed to have it now. Was impatient. There really aren't too many of them for sale on the likes of Ebay.

I see your point but having steelbooks that are not rare on the list may mislead collectors that are new to collecting and may there for pay a Premium for a title that can be found much cheaper.
My Thoughts on rare steelbooks is when a rare steelbbok appears on ebay etc it goes for a premium price and is highly sought after and alot of titles on the main list are not so rare.

Or it being there may allow new collectors to still get it while its relatively cheap before the price sky rockets. ;)

One of those glass half empty/full situations haha.

Thanks Pieter-as Andy mentioned that's the 2nd print. The 1st print appears on Ebay here and there, but still one of the 'harder' to find Steels (can't just be ordered all of the time at regular retailers, and there is not a flood on Ebay. We'll keep the 1st print on the list for now.

I thought I join in the fun in this debate since my favorite steelbook is mentioned here. How rare is defined is very subjective until one takes into consideration time and circumstance. The DE Sucker Punch is harder to find now because:
- folks who have them are not willing to part with them due to that darn re-release, or
- dealers/sellers on ebay are holding on to push the demand and price up, or
- someone is methodically intentionally destroying them :angry:

I am more inclined to think it is the second reason why it is harder to find the first release because it could demand a higher price later on (time). And because of the re-release with poorer art (circumstance), the first release now has attained a similar status as its SDCC sister steelbook. Yet when you look at this from a speculative point, it is a lot like the stock market where demand and price can be "manipulated" by news events (circumstance). Heck I remember when I struggled with deciding if Apple at $50 per share was a good investment a long time ago. Look at it now (time and circumstance). Does it make it rare to own Apple stocks these days? Heck yeah due to the premium it commands. So I say if you are paying a premium for something hard to find that is truly enjoyed and loved by most people, then it is a rare item.

:D

Just speculation that I've heard before, but thought you'd find it interesting. Since you're not the first to suggest that with a release. ;)

The rumor was with the first John Rambo release that when amazon.de pulled the remainder of steelbooks from their inventory that the extras were possibly destroyed.

Even though it was likely a minimum print run of 4,000 was done for John Rambo, it's very likely that only 2,000+ exist.

That rumor was the progenitor of point #3 ;)

The same "rumor" was supposedly said to be the fate of our, my beloved SDCC Sucker Punch steelbook until someone with guts and love of money :)hilarious:) decided to keep the stacks of unsold steelbooks and truck them back to the WB warehouse. If not, we could possibly see SP go head to head with John Rambo and even Iron Man. Just saying.

I might agree with you if it wasn't G1.

I love that release. I'm just saying the "general collector base" might not feel the same way - that's what will probably keep it from the top dawg status, IMO. :naughty:

Sadly, you get no disagreement from me on that. But it does not and should not stop me from bargain hunting and collecting it (6 and counting). :scat:

You know with the holiday season and parties going on, me and some of my pals have put on a sort of roadshow of steelbooks (yes it was brought on by the Amazon.JP "talks"). Besides being great items for party chatter, I am seeing genuine interest growing amongst the "investor" types now, sort of different from the general collector base. If folks have extra copies of the top 3 most desired and rare steelbooks (sorry for the ranking here DB), you might want to hold on to them for a little while. I have heard the $1K+ price of the recent Iron Man auction caused a ripple (not sure how big) through the collector-investor circles. I won't be surprised if IM hits $2K in the next 6 months followed by John Rambo breaking $1K+. And if Brad Pitt wins his first Oscar, the FS Inglourious Basterds would sky rocket too.

So boys and girls, if you can afford it and see a good deal on an authentic hard to find steelbook, have it checked out (of course feel free to use the experts here - I think folks here saved someone's shorts yesterday on a fake John Rambo :hilarious:), and have fun with it. That is what this is all about - FUN!:oohyeah::oohyeah:

I wrote to steelbook and movie companies to release future steelbook in all G1 format and remove the G2 to be consistent going forward.

So...ya..there are hopes that everything will be G1 and people who like G2 will be buying amaray case or watch the rest of us enjoy the G1 cases :)

hehehe.

I could change that if I wanted to. :hilarious:

I have more of this than any other steelbook in my collection.

I agree with you. I think there are some pretty big collectors enterting the market. The rare ones are getting expensive and will continue to for a while. Inflation is hitting and will only get worse too. These are rare works of art. Art gets very expensive. EEK!

Chip, sure, and then they'd all be worth $9/piece, LOL...

Don't even.... :hilarious:
